MELON TRIAL LISTS, CORE TRIALS. Others will be added periodicly. A lot of them are known, I want to compare them with unknown others. I have reduced the number of melons from last year to devote more time to growing seeds and breeding...

that's a nice set of melons
seriously, awesome list of melons you got there. I wish we had more room to grow melons, but unfortunately space is very limited and we have no room! some day!

Wow - let's hope we have some decent melon weather this year for a change. Do you hand-pollinate, Michel? I tried to last summer, but the plants were not happy in the first place, being wet and cold. I think they resented being further bothered by me.. All my hand pollination for melons failed...
VT USA zone 3-4 Rural, about .35 acre of gardens. Soil - glacial erratic - some clay/loam some sandy/loam. Cultivation strictly with hand tools - this limits my garden size. I adhere to organic practices. No greenhouse, no polytunnels, etc. http://www.theextremegardener.com

Wow, what a list. I'm drooling!
My season is just finishing. I've only had two ripen so far - Ananas d'Amérique à chair verte and Lunéville (thanks for the seeds Michel). Both are delicious melons but for me Lunéville just pips Ananas, although it's a darn sight easier to determine a ripe Ananas because it slips so easily from the vine when ripe.
Absolute minimum: -28 degrees Celsius; Average minimum: -16-18 C; Average frost-free period: 20 April to 15 October; Usual high temperatures during summer: 33 to 36 C (rarely up to 40 C); Average annual rainfall: 600 mm.

A fine looking list, I will be back asking for some seeds this autumn
Guess I'm the only one to wish you a lousy summer - just a selfish wish, to only have your most cold hardy and disease resistant melons perform well. Bad weather is a great short cut in a breeding program, as long as some of the plants survive.
OK, I really do wish you a nice and enjoyable summer!

No problem Alan, a special friendly price for you, 25$ per seed, is it OK?

Kokopelli in France has one, Voatango, that comes from Madagascar and is said to be very drought resistant. I have a few seeds left, I can send some to you. I'll look up in the genebank info to see if some that I have are drought resistant. I am not selecting for drought, with the last 3-4 summers we had, I am much more looking for better swimmers
You should maybe look for early melons too, since they'll have more water duringyour short humid season.
I also noticed that you are looking for a good draught resistant corn. If I was you I would get in touch with organic farming organisations or coop. In southern France, in Périgord, they have one, the ITALIEN (italian) that is heavy producing and drought resistant, they do not have much rain there either. I have some seeds, but they are all from one ear, so you would be doomed unless you cross pollinated it with something else...
There again, a very early one like Bear Island Flint could be good for you, it would have time to grow before your drought, and basically dry out in the dry warmth...
