No, not a nice warm Island like Hawaii but it is beautiful and green in the NW. When we get all that rain we remember the reason we can have lots of trees and not the scary fires they have down in California.
Lately I feel like it is a vacation home because I only get out there on my weekends. My sister calls me the Granny/Nanny because after work each day I babysit the Grandkids and stay there during the week. No matter it does save ferry fare and commute time. They are fun kids too *most* of the time. My home is kept warm and cared for during the week by my sister and son who are on the Island full time. Right now we have 2 dogs, 2 cats and about 15 chickens.
I am a *has been* Firefighter and now Dispatch for Security and Fire as a day job, too.
I have a bit under 2 acres with a big garden I call my Potager because it has variety: vegetables, herbs, fruit and flowers. I love unusual vegetables and crops - and love all the aspects of gardening; from the great tools to the wonder of letting a plant go to seed. Sometimes it may be merely reading about it but it can keep me entertained forever.
Lucky it is not summer with flies buzzing about because I would have a mouthful since I could not stop sitting here my mouth agape at all the wonderful topics here!!! I am totally excited, I found my grove.
I am so grateful.

Maybe you'll make some friends from other countries. Whereabouts in the NW are you located? An island sounds like my kind of place.. i'd love to have my own little island Anyways.. hope you enjoy it here. Dave

Welcome Swiss Chard, Hope you will jump right in and join us. Must warn you about canadamike, as he is another one who wants to cover a person with seeds. No, really there are a lot of generous people in our little (okay not so little) "family" of gardeners and friends. Cheers, Val / grungy and Dan / grunt

Do not believe Val, she's the drowner in chief!! British Columbia is lucky they are not too much into cabbages, the fumes from the farts would cover the province ;D They do grow gazillions of tomato plants though!! And cherries, and apples, and peaches, and beans, and everything else too... Oh! And they are nice wonderful people...

I just knew I would love it here, already so many whacky people warning me about drowning in seeds- I knew another Dave who did that - his birthday is on Earth day. I can take it man. Well, OK will get ya all out here if you bring the booze!!! The Island which is not ALL mine but we do get snooty about it, is between Seattle and Tacoma - it is 12 miles long and 8 MILES at the widest point - we have lots of gardeners, artists, hippies and muscians. Pretty wonderful place - but I am biased; I grew up there!

- it is 12 miles long and 8 feet at the widest point 12 miles long but only 8 feet at the widest point!! And that many people?? Shit, that must be a commune then. So you all are sleeping together where it is 8 feet wide, hey? With all those artists and hippies, must be the hell of a party every night!! Can you invite me! I feel pretty sure a young and attractive hippie girl could find me good looking after a couple of funny cigarettes As long as she shaves her legs and her armpits....

Do not listen to everything the crazy Swiss person says-----she can have severe brain difficulties- maybe due to age or doing too much at a time- Corrected the size of Vashon!!!
That woud be crazy-cozy! We are completely surrounded by water -maybe there has been some damage to my brain, yeah that's it, rust!
