Ate a bunch of seedlings yesterday. While I threatened to BBQ her, I can't really, as she probably won't taste very good, having only eaten Iams and squash seedlings recently. Grrr! It wouldn't be such an issue if I was growing a lot, but when you only start 6 of a variety, and the dog eats 'em all... well, ya know, I hated her yesterday is all I'm saying. Stupid dog.

Sorry to hear that, Lav, I know how it felt ! My dog is also a little menace, he chewed down my peony trees, drop down a whole tray of tomato seedlings (40 seedlings gone!), dug up my plants... and today pull out my walnut seedlings and chewed them down to pieces . Sow some more seeds and set it somewhere safe from her or get some seedlings. I am sure she felt sorry somehow and will be carefull next time.

They are lucky they're cute, right? I lost all my Kuri squash, all but one Musquee de Provence, some Ambrosia melon and some Tennessee Muskmelon. Blah...

Spray your next transplants with pepper tea (unless your dogs are as twisted as mine, and actually like it).

They are lucky they're cute, right? He he, that seems to be one of the reason why I alway forgive my silly destructive dog .

Glad to hear my dog is not the only twisted kind, Grunt ;D. When he was puppy, he plucked all hot chili fruit and chewed them down (also ate some)... he licked us after that and our skin was in burning pain... bah! This year, all plants will be grown out of his reach! Spray your next transplants with pepper tea (unless your dogs are as twisted as mine, and actually like it).

This is an unfortunate incident Lav. I guess from the comments of others, I can consider myself fortunate that none of my mutts over the years have ever messed with seedlings? Cats on the other hand are another story.
I hope your last remaining Musquee de Provence seedling survives to give you lots of fruit (and seeds). I grew most of your seed out last year only to have that wet season and a crop failure. But the last three seeds germinated and the plants are looking amazing. I hope that 2010 is the charm for my three.

I know how you feel, both my german shepherd mix (mostly him) and rottweiler like to mess with my seedlings and plants. i try and fence them off but some pots just are too tastey for them. Dogs but i love them both. I feel your pain.

>.> My dogs aren't allowed in my (now) fenced off garden. I even had to fence off my apple seedlings and my blackberry bushes. Don't ask me how a black berry can't stand up to my dogs, but alas, the bushes lost out.
On a quirky note: my german shorthaired pointer (God, i LOVE that breed) is a vegetable connoisseur. He only eats my RIPE tomatoes and he looooooooooves squash and squash blossoms!!! My little brittany spaniel is a cucumber freak (and in fact i think all my spaniels have been cucumber thieves with god-like ninja skills to get at some of them unnoticed) and will steal them whenever possible!!!
*shrugs* Sadly, my rambunctious dogs love to eat my plants, and i have had to fence/cover them all. They STAND in my lettuce boxes...I don't understand why they think those are a great place to perch, but they ruined one of my lettuce sowings!
