Joseph, You speak Russian and you're a bookworm. No wonder you are such a good plant breeder. Those Russians were always great plant breeders. Thanks for sharing.
I agree about the gubermint. I never want them on the farm again.

Joseph, Reading your article was eye-opening, and you are helping those less fortunate, your generosity is admirable!
On a different note, I have never heard anyone talk about CPB's just in the way you did, live and let live, (outside of your garden) that should be the future way of thinking in agriculture.
BTW, Bakersfield is a great place to have been from, ha, but they grow the sweetest oranges in the whole state of California there. We used to go pick them in January, after the main harvest, and I have never tasted any sweeter oranges.

Joseph, Thank you for sharing this article and for sharing so much about yourself in the article. I admire and appreciate what you are doing. I smiled when you said "they always pay something where they will feel good about theirselves". It brought back one of my favorite memories and a lesson that I have never forgot: Forty years ago, my father and I did an electrical job for an elderly couple. We spent 2/3 of a day and Dad had $ 25 or $ 30 dollars worth of electrical supplies in the job. When we finished, Dad charged them $2.00. When we were in the truck, I asked why he just did not give the job to them. He slowly said, "son, they still have their pride. We did the job that they requested and they paid us what we requested." Although my Dad "just" worked for the electric company, his funeral was the largest that the funeral home had ever conducted. Joseph, thank you for sharing on HG. I am learning, so much, but mostly you have me thinking about different production methods.

Thanks for the kind words. I spent last week cleaning up fallen trees after a high wind storm. This week and next I am packaging about 200 packets of seeds for a seed swap that I am participating in. After that's done I expect to post my seed swap list for this year. I still gotta eat a whole bunch of moschata squash!!! I already know that I have gallons of Astronomy Domine sweet corn seed available.

You'd quickly get tired of winter photos of my garden... November looks the same as December looks the same as January looks the same as February looks the same as March. 2012 looks the same as 2011 looks the same as 2010. Snow, snow, snow. I might be exaggerating a wee bit: we do get an occasional winter thaw, but I can pretty much plan on snow-cover from November to March. Here's a time lapse gif animation that I have been working on for 2010. The winter months bring out the gentleman-artist in me.

Lol Joseph - misfit nonconformist and proud of it.
I'm another that had "read the library" by the time I graduated from school. College was a whole new world, there was a NEW library to enjoy. Thank you for sharing the info.
Now if we could figure out how to travel to another planet, we would have a few people who might be qualified to colonize.
