Just call the publisher of the paper you are using. Our local paper is put out by Gannet and they use soy ink. Supposedly the colored ink has some heavy metal content in it but still plenty of black and white newsprint kicking around. I've found that paper feed bags also work well, its a little heavier than newsprint but breaks down just as fast.

There was a time when some colored inks were made with heavy metals but it's been a long time. That's where the stories about concerns with colored inks came from.
These days the inks are mainly derived from soybeans and are harmless.
