So what's up with this? Are you still supposed to be in suspense; have they gone away and there's no problem? When do you have to renew your certification? I should think three months would be a long time to let you go on doing what you do, if they subsequently want to say it's wrong. So I suppose the longer they leave you alone, the harder it is for them to rule against you, without opening themselves to charges of having endangered the public they are allegedly protecting.

Steev, I think it's like one of those mind game things. They plant to keep me worrying till I quit farming.
Well, I may worry, but I will not quit farming. They will have to drag my cold dead stiff body from here with wild horses. I plan to farm till I can't get out of bed and then go make myself a breakfast of wild mushrooms sprinkled liberally with hemlock into stirred eggs with feta and peppers.
They usually send the renewal stuff in December.
Of course, they did not have the courtesy to tell me their findings.
Simmering is not a good thing for me. I have spent my time wisely and found a shark who will help me, if need be.
Vendana Shiva spoke at the conference about labeling GMO. I had this bad feeling that perhaps that is exactly where Monsanto wants us to go. Think about it. Once "they" labeled organic none of us could afford it. So none of us are "organic."
Once they label GMO, all of us will have to quit farming, because we won't be able to afford the tests to prove that we are NOT GMO. If they find that we are GMO it's Percy Schmeiser all over again. They have us coming and going. We really need to take the power away from these corporations and give it back to the people.

Now this is exactly what is wrong with decent people; when things get intolerable, they kill themselves. You will remember Vendana Shiva speaking of this, all the screwed farmers in India committing suicide by drinking pesticide out in the fields that used to belong to them before they got sucked down the get-rich-with-GMOs-rathole. So selfish and egocentric; why don't they think of others? Shouldn't they share that bottle of pesticide with the Monsanto rep who talked them into it?
As for what you say about labelling GMO, your scenario might be realistic, but I would suggest that it rests on "guilty until proven innocent", an inversion of our historically avowed principles that is becoming an all-too-common perversion of our common law. If I am to be guilty from the git-go and eligible for Gitmo, I'd rather be hung for a goat than for a sheep, or hung like a horse, truth be told.
May you not need your shark, but if you do, may he be as good as my divorce lawyer, who looked like Mister Rogers and could slit your throat so subtly, you'd thank him through your new smile.

Steev, I think we should do a leveraged buyout of Monsanto and then dismember it. How many folks would have to put up $1 to buy them out and then reduce the company to nothing but bad wind?

It's already an ill wind that blows no good.

dumont, I'm pretty sure that every man, woman and child on the planet would have to put in that dollar, and then some. Then we could all wait in line to get the mark of the beast, and roast in hell for all eternity for being part of Monsanto, lol!

I wonder, if you no longer "composted," but instead used leaves, weeds, etc. as mulch and/or soil amendments (which mayor may not have broken down to some extent,) could you get around their requirements? I suppose that's being too optimistic, surely they've covered all the angles.

They were very anal. It was like they were looking for things to make you fail. You know the difference when someone is trying to help you. They say things like, "You should try to turn your compost more often." Instead of, "When was the last time this compost was turned?"
They wanted to see where it was written when I turned the compost and when I weeded. Those of you who farm/garden should be laughing now. When are you not weeding? My left hand weeds while my right brain is wondering whether I have time to get another crop of peas in, and my right hand is picking beans. My left brain was not counting the peas.

I can't get throw away produce from the local stores and restaurants cause someone might eat it and sue the organization throwing it away. Now, THAT is anal.
I've heard, but I don't know if it's true, that Wal-Mart WAS sued by a homeless person who ate day old donations from the store and became ill.
Regardless, we are surrounded by death regulations that will burden even the regulators because those that suffer most are the middle guys and face it, they are "middle guys" just like us. Pure insanity!
Around here, food service folks catch pure hell when there are flies in their shops. Thanks to the local hog and turkey farms, flies are EVERYWHERE. You open a door, you get flies inside. Just imagine what will happen if the AC goes out and the owner opens the door for a breath of air? They could loose their business! Stupid? Crazy? World gone mad? ::sigh::
