Hilling corn seems to often be a good idea since corn may sprout roots above the soil line; I usually do it by just dumping compost on the stalks when they're well up.

With corn being such a heavy feeder, I plan on doing that, too, Steev. Can't hurt!

DLD - I had all clay and construction pan when I moved in. I had to bring in topspoil, and amend it with my compost. I'll post a pic of my hill before amending, so you can see it.

Yeah... the area behind the ducks in that one pic is actually a pretty steep drop off. I haven't even weedwhacked down there in a couple months, because I don't like playing mountain goat! Oh well.
