Here's another one Bunkie: www.simpleshoemaking.com/index.htmI've written her a letter that I'll snail mail today or tomorrow. She's a "far piece up the road" from us. I'm kinda hoping we can cut a deal of some sort. Maybe she'll trade some knitting? We'll see. Regardless, I want to get her book as soon as I can afford it. I have a hunch that will be the best place to start.

That's great Janet! But you are welcome to come this spring, as I might have plenty of plants that you would like for your shady areas. I will be potting up lots of different things for the swap. Though I really shouldn't call it a swap. Most people will be driving quite a distance, and I certainly don't expect anyone to actually bring any plants. What I have will be free for anyone to take what they want. I'll try to get a list going of the plants I should have so everyone can see what they may want. I'll try to reserve things if I know for sure someone will want them.

Oh Karen, I would love that! Just let me know when this spring I will will be right over. Just thinking about getting some pretty plants around here has really lifted my spirits right now. I was just about ready to give it up to having something around me beside woods, even though I do like the woods, I sure do miss the garden and flowers I once had before (Roses etc.) I was also wondering if there were any other musicians coming besides me. I can bring my keyboard and some sound equitment. If anyone want to bring their guitar, tamborine or whatever we might get a little music going. I sing & play just about any type of music. I do have a guitar I can throw in my back seat too.. .Janet

Well Janet, Alan is a musician, don't know about anyone else. If you are into bluegrass type stuff at all, there is a music fest here called the Lotus Dicky Festival. Lotus lived here, don't know why he is so famous but apparently he is, even nationally. Folks around here are more likely to remember him as someone who had a bunch of kids and didn't do too awful much to support them. I guess he was too busy writing songs. At least now his family is getting a little something from what he did. Anyway, people come from several states for this jam session, you might like it.

I have never played Bluegrass but do like it. I like alot of different types of music. Never heard of the artist. Musicians are a 'strange' lot, as I have found they are not very dependable, moody, restless and subject to want to 'move on down the road'. . . lol Me, I just like to sing and play music, no matter what type it is. Thanks for the info.

We play Christmas Carols! We are expert with "Little Drummer Boy"! Tommy plays his drum, Robby has cymbals, and Daddy has the tambourine. Not a one of us could carry a tune in a bucket, Tommy seems to have fairly decent rhythm though. We'll be brushing up on the drive!
TRUFFLES! If any of you interested in getting truffle trees but can't do the full 18 and are planning on coming to the shin-dig, we could place a joint order and I can pick them up on the way. Betty is a sweetheart and I'm sure she would be happy to work with us on this.

Hey Janet! Glad to have another Hoosier here on the site! Welcome. When you get a chance to make out towards Karen's be sure to stop by Pekin and visit us as well!
I'll be bringing a couple instruments to the gathering, probably a guitar and a mandolin, I haven't played in a few months but have plans to pick back up shortly, just for fun mostly!

Sure Alan, love to! I will bring my husband Frank with me. He has raised Gensing in our woods before. I showed him some posts of your plantings and his eyes lite up. ..lol My music has always been just for my fun and the band is just 'icing on the cake'. We will have fun no matter what we do. It is good to find other members close by and this is one reason I joined. I moved here from Seymour In. and know very few people, none of which we socoilize with so to find others around here that I can have in common with is a wonderful surprise for me. I am looking forward to meeting all of you.

Has a date been set? I did not see a date set either than fall....but maybe I missed it I would love to come..probably could even get my husband, sister, and brother in law to come. My husband and I are outside of Bedford...right next to the booming metropolis of Silverville (said with tongue firmly in cheek). It would not far for us at all.

The week of September 18th I believe. Though I'm not sure if it is the week in front or the week in back. Karen will have to affirm this to be certain. I THINK (often I do this to no avail I fear) that that was/is a target date.

I will have lots of sweet corn seed left over this year so I will be bringing some to swap. Otherwise I do not have much to swap being both new to the area (moved here a year ago) and new to serious gardening. I also home roast coffee (using a popcorn popper) so I can bring some roasted coffee although I am limited to doing small batches because the popper can only roast 4 oz of beans at a time. I could start roasting 2 weeks in advance of the event and see how much I can roast up I mainly do light City level roasts but could do some dark roasts. I have some friends (not local-sadly) who do wonderful dark roasts so maybe I can have them send me some stuff to bring for you folks who like 'the dark side' roasts. I have multiple varieties from just about everywhere...Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Columbia, Kenya, Ethiopia, Yemen, Java, Sumatra, and Sulawesi. I also have loads of un roasted beans if anyone else is into roasting coffee.

Yep, Sept 18 is the date we are shooting for. I believe that Jo's family will be coming to stay for a week or so since it is such a long drive, and maybe Telsing's family too. I just hope they are prepared for just how po-dunk we really are ;D This will just be a really low key get together. Where we live I can't really do all that I would like to, maybe in 5 years we will have found our perfect place in the country and I can do it up right. Maybe 'Homegrown CornStock 2015'. Mary, I was recently in Silverville with my husband, I really liked that old storefront. Classic.
