Thank's Steve,
We're going to call it Rochambeau...not as in the ball buster game...but as in
Rock, Paper, Scissors.
But speckled Vole was high on our list! (I'll send you a few) with your other treasures. Regards, Holly

Steve: I'm going to try to get some beans to cross just so I can name it speckled orphan!! Though I have to say I like Rochambeau too.

Steve: Name my potential cross please: Left to right: Hunter - ? - Cherokee Trail of Tears Characteristics - all pole beans: Hunter: wide podded slicing bean with green pod, great flavour and white, flat dry beans. ?: Purple wide podded bean with lavender flat dry beans - I've been told that it could be Blue Victor? Cherokee Trail of Tears: Purple round podded with rounded black beans, almost iridescent in the light - excellent dry bean. I'll try to remember to get a picture of my 'cranberry-type' bean. It seems to have some that have classic horticultural bean markings and some that are nearly all maroon red with a few white markings.

Looks like a very small spleen, to me.
If you know the parentage of your bean, how could you call it "orphan"?
"Rochambeau" is very genteel; I must be lacking some cultural base, as the rest of the data doesn't compute for me. I know RPS; I infer that Rochambeau could be a French colloquialism for that game; ball-buster game? Sounds like some sort of Oktoberfest Bavarian diversion.

Is purple podded pole a wide bean then? I don't think I had any of those but heck, I'm not ruling anything out I'm not sure that bean has parentage, I just don't remember planting anything with its description so I'm guessing. Whatever it was, it was a great producer. I think I'm going to grow Hunter, Goldmarie and ? together for the three coloured wide pod look.

Turtleheart: Just looked up the description of purple podded and it *could* be that assuming I actually planted that? Did anyone send me that bean? Next year, I won't be so dotty promise. In my defence, not only did I have the puppy fiasco, it was also my first year getting the garden(s) ready at this new place. For the time being, I'm just going to call it that!
