Surely the only thing that might matter is to sow any large flat seed on its side rather than flat. If you sown flat in an over wet compost or ground, the likelihood of rotting before germination is greater. I've had some pretty good results where I've just left a small squash outside where it grew to rot, and then thinned to the best when several dozen sprouted in the spring.

flabbergasted is when you walk out one day and find the cucumbers has trellised on the fence, any nearby rope and all over the cantaloupe 5 feet away.

Holly, that pic.... LOL no words dear, no words at all!!! Mike loves it, he just realized that you are a "homie" to us...
On a serious note... I'm thinking that for our situation, Joseph's stomp method might be a good thing. Perhaps it would help make it a bit more difficult for the bugs? Worth a shot at the very least.
