Took a bunch of pics yesterday. First of all, did the weekly lettuce planting which went much faster with my new row marker.
Had to pick a few rocks before tilling the lettuce bed, go ahead and mock.
The first planting of swiss chard has been in for about two weeks, the stuff that is in house #4 is going gangbusters, should be ready to start harvesting in early June. Planted the rest of it outdoors, that stuff is also green and growing well but not as big of course.
Here's an update on the super-early snap peas. I have to say that I will not do this again. It took up half a hoophouse for a long stretch of time this spring that could have been in greens of some kind. Translates into a loss of at least $1000, maybe more. Peas just don't yield enough to justify they very precious hoophouse real estate. Also, shortly after I moved the house off of them we had a very wet snow storm which smushed them flat. The oats stood back up and the peas didn't so this is a bitch of a patch to pick. The oats are loving the cool spring conditions though, some of the leaves look like corn leaves, they are in the boot just about to head out.
First ripening berry was found yesterday.
Seedling lineup in house #3. I need a real greenhouse so bad.
House #1 is full of stuff that is fine outside. I need to move this pronto and get the cukes in.
The test plot area just east of house #1, not much to look at I know... Nearest is the sterile Red Choi, then a row of store bought red shallots, then Norka fava from traab, Faust hulless barley, Terra Hulless oat, Pessl malt barley, Carol Deppe's Hannan pop chickpea/garbanzo, and then Hungarian Landrace winter wheat getting tall way in the back. All of this needs a serious hoeing.
Daisy, getting 1.5-2 gallons with Once-a-Day milking.
There we go.
