Asked Jesse Radja, so far, thx. (Neat seed list.) Oscar's seed list is awesome. He's also a very good fruit photographer and regularly wins or places in the CRFG's annual photography contest. He is a member of the largest internet rare fruit group I know of: groups.yahoo.com/group/rarefruit/

I've tried the mailing list with no luck. It is apparently available from Hawaiian nurseries, toward the end of the year -- maybe a birthday present from my family.
I might check in on Poki, again, since they had nice kava (which my cat laid on.)

The only one that comes to mind at the moment is Erewhon Natural Foods on Beverly Blvd near S Fairfax: www.erewhonmarket.com/retailer/store_templates/shell_id_1.asp?storeID=D75C352CBF6F4DDEAC31FE4AA9F34525

That's getting much closer. I'll ask, thanks.

Now this is getting up close and personal: regards to your unhelpful cat!

Poki Nurseries had a minimum order of $100, if recall. I had hoped to cultivate Black Mo'i and Tuday Kava / Awa in the bay window for resale. I have since learned that a piece of bamboo in each pot helps to keep cats from laying in them.
The mailgroup was mainly composed of spectators, who expressed their curiosity, but did not carry seeds. They referred me to yet more people, who were no help.
I will tend to offer barter, to buy it, or at least to cover shipping. Especially on something bigger like that.

My contact in the Philippines said the durian were only half-ripe, last month, due to rains. I have waited several weeks, asked again.
Also, family plans a trip to China Town, L.A. soon.

They had frozen ones at an Asian market here last week, but no fresh ones.

That's what I get, but thanks for looking.
The Philippine crop is reportedly ruined for the year.
I am of the understanding that fresh durian, from other locales, is not under strict control, but does not make it far from port.
These are heavy, sharp, fragrant, and unusual. Even if someone were to remember my interest, it would not be fair to impose.
Now that I know when the season is, the trick will be to have just the right amount of money on hand at the right time.
I understand that seeds, grown in outlying, US territories, can be wrapped in sphagmun, when fresh, sprout while en route to their destination.

Months later, I'm still getting lots of runarounds about this exotic fruit.
I've gotten neat things, but not particularly what I was looking for, or the familiar-looking durian seeds seemed to have been dried out, before shipping. They quickly rotted, no matter how careful I was.
I have been referred to many nurseries, just because they have tropical fruits. None of them carried it.
Some people have told me it would be available toward the end of the year, while others tell me unfrozen fruit will be available in the summer.
I am restating my interest, if you have access, but don't put yourself out. I prettymuch always hold back just a little bit of plant money, as this is my hobby. So, please ask for reimbursement as appropriate.
FWIW -- My intention is to keep mother plants, indoors, and to use air layers in permaculture experiments. I do not waste valuable plant material.

FWIW, they have them now, in London (the UK) in Chinatown, fresh, not frozen.

This is interesting, because it means they're still fruiting, somewhere.

There are so many microclimates in the Asian tropics that almost anything is possible.

Andrew hopes it's a good lead. Thanks for thinking of me.
