BTW, you owe Jali an answer. Avoidance isn't exactly indicative of a "strong moral stance" to be proud of.

That's ok, PV, I don't expect an answer. That would take courage and conviction, and if Phelps is admired - seriously or just for the sake of shock-value, courage and conviction take a backseat to self-aggrandizement and hyperbole. Not surprising.

Oh, I was just being hateful again. I was referring to the number of members on this forum. I simply must stop typing whatever pops into my head. Cowboy Bob (he was the guy on Channel 4's afternoon cartoon show) always closed the show with 'Remember, if you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all.' So, from now on I am going to stay away from anything religious or political. Seems those two subjects cause more high blood pressure than any others. Maybe we are all just anxious for spring to get here.

Blane, I forgot that you said you were from Indiana. Yep, that old Cowboy was a nice guy. Those old cartoons were the best. I am almost 43, and don't mind saying that I still watch Tom & Jerry when I can catch them on cartoon network. And I went through a period of collecting vintage characters that were part of my childhood. I've got a great Huckleberry Hound target. You know, from back in the days when children were given BB guns to play with. Funny, when kids were playing with guns there weren't any mass murders on school grounds. Yep, think I'll go see what's on cartoon network, or tv land. Mayberry and Barney have gotten some bad press in this thread, but I can't say I wouldn't like to live there.....

PapaVic--Although I am an arminian and would disagree with some elements of Phelps' Calvinistic theology and some of the language he uses, it is his strong moral stance that I applaud. Fred Phelps is a profound embarrassment to any true, Bible-believing Christian. The tactics he chooses to use to rail against homosexuality are absurd and, IMHO harmful to the cause of Christ. Thus, he has relagated himself to the "Christian Kook" classification and stained the name of Christ. He will give account of his actions one day ...

I refer to Jere as the "Man in Yellow" sometimes. Isn't the Man in The Yellow Hat the guy who owns Curious George the monkey?

"That's why we who are in the right must EXPAND the fences of what the cynics refer to as our "dogma". God bless Reverend Phelps!
(And no, that's not a joke. I'm downright serious.)"
Man, that is just so sad. How does a teenaged boy end up an ultra-right wing extremist? Instead of having fun and heading to college, he gets wrapped up in this Nazi garbage.
