Greenzone,
I'm glad to see you chime in on this one. I figured you were a lurker. I hope Jere doesn't take offense to your participation here.

One thing I learned years ago in my newspaper days was the human foible to be drawn to controversy. Print a story and you will get the calls that you shouldn't have printed that. You don't get calls thanking you for printing it, only saying you shouldn't have printed it. Same on the forums. Some people don't like controversy but they are inexplicably drawn to it and to assuage their guilt for indulging they put the blame outside themselves and whine about the thread. They can simply choose not to read it so they don't feel uncomfortable, but they can't do that, they have to complain.

Oooh! The force is strong with me! I asked Randel to join the dark side, and the next day he's here! I hereby rename myself Darth Lavandula! I now want a helmet, and James Earl Jones' voice. Minions WILL be mine! Bwahahahaha!
Just messing with you, GZ - glad you posted here. And I'm not really going to take the credit for your presence, but if minions become available I SO have first dibs!
And Landarc, yeah... I even own a short plaid pleated skirt. Having the zipper replaced, because hubby also likes that look...

Alan, I vaguely remember when you opened the Soapbox, there were some ground rules ... something about you had to say "I'm stepping up on the soapbox now ..." and I guess maybe something about that you might get a bit opinionated or whatever.
Well, why not just go back to a guideline where if someone realizes they are in a huge rant and are saying something that might be offensive to the virgin ears of someone else, how 'bout just including a "warning" UP AT THE TOP OF THE MESSAGE? Hey, folks, you should be proofreading your posts before you click the "post reply" button anyway. So, if you include profanity or hurtful words, just say so with a warning:
WARNING: The following message may contain language or context that some find offensive to their sensitivities or moral standards. READ AT YOUR OWN RISK!"
Then of course, the prurient forces within us all will SURELY read on ... just like slowing down on the Interstate for a bad wreck :::grin:::

I suggest stronger zippers. NO, what am I saying? I suggest you velcro the zipper in place, that way it is more fun for hubby. And for the record, I don't go for that little girl in plaid skirt look. I go for the hottie full blown, full grown woman in a plaid skirt look.
Minions are over-rated. The overseas sourcing issues alone, you cant imagine the paper work and such.

Greenzone, I'm glad to see you chime in on this one. I figured you were a lurker. I hope Jere doesn't take offense to your participation here. Jim Thanks for the welcome, Jim (I missed it before). I don't think Jere'll have a problem with my joining this forum. If he does, I guess he'll let me know. He might if I were to help with the bashing, but I wouldn't do that. Actually, I wouldn't run anyone down the way some have done on the Soapbox. It's just not my way. I think responsibility goes along with the exercise of freedom. FWIW I'm not here as an apologist for iDig, either. Though I might offer my two cents' worth if someone criticized me. Mainly I'm just here because I had been outed as a lurker.

Alan,
I lurked here for a week or more before joining. The soapbox was why I joined - especially the iDig thread. I saw it as a group of people expressing their honest frustration and poking a bit of fun at others and each other. It never came across to me as judging them. I *never* (sorry, I can't get the bolding to work) thought it went over the line. Hell, the regulars were poking fun at each other just as "viciously" as they did at others.
I believed, and still believe, I can be myself here. I came right out (no pun intended, but I'll take the credit for being clever with it) and told you all something that, while not being a secret, I have never broadcasted in my life.
WU was listened to, asked questions and shown as much respect as everyone else. He was invited to post in the "a little about yourself" section. His views seem to be at the other end of the spectrum from most people here, but he is allowed, even invited, to express them. Wow. Talk about openness.
If people can't say in one (or some) form or another, "that hurt me, please don't do it again" to another, then they should log off and stay of the net. People also need to learn where that thin line (the one you don't want to go over) is, (a tricky thing to learn and different for everyone) and respect it. The only way for anyone to learn where that line is, is by open, adult communication.
This place reminds me of Spider Robinson's Callahan's bar. Family. Caring people. A place I want to be a part of.
Please don't change a thing about it.
