This year I am only sure to grow a wild tomato collected in the coastal desert of Peru, LA 0722, and Ailsa Craig, an "English breakfast tomato". Does anyone know what an "English breakfast tomato' is? All I know is that it is suposed to be very high quality, but not at all adapted to Kansas. But it is segregating for a male sterile gene marked by brown seeds. I'll be trying to cross the male sterile plants with LA 0722 to give very heat, cold, and drought tolerant cherry tomatoes. I did this 30 years ago in Africa, with excellent results. I did it again when I returned to the states, but I let the strain die out. Very careless of me.

Thank you Dar. xxoh
Walt Seed, An English Breakfast Tomato is a tomato served at breakfast. Traditionally slow roasted in the oven with a little oil, salt and thyme. It is served with Black pudding, bacon, sausages, fried eggs, beans, fresh sauteed button mushrooms, (and toast on the side so it doesn't wallow in the beans). Serve with a large mug of rust colored tannic tea and Heinz Ketchup on the side.
And the best place I have ever had a great English breakfast....the Banff Springs Hotel on Boxing Day! The worst? London....icky canned mushrooms, and a nasty little poached egg...I can't even think of the rest without shivering.
This is what I'm planting: Heinz 54 from Oxbow Piennolo del Vesuvio Picardy KBX Lynnwood Grappiolo d' Invierno Dr. Carolyn Pink Daniels Bear Creek Me Tarzan Cherry - Yeah Lieven, I'm replanting Lieven's Teardrop Sweet Beverly Lucky Cross Stump of the World da Apprendere
That's 14 tomatoes (2 of each). And no not one more.
Dar, I have plenty of room for peppers!
The trouble with peppers and tomatoes and potatoes and eggplant is that they are all in the same darn family and take up about 1/4 of the farm. I'm running out of rotation!
OK, I've spent the last two hours writing names on cups. I'll be filling and planting these tonight, as it's 7 weeks from my usual plant out day (April 1). Some will be 1 seed per cup due to small sample size, and I'm intentionally starting more than I need so I can share some others. So I don't expect all of these to make it into the ground, but here's what I'm starting for this year:
Piennolo del Vesuvio - 13 (Thanks, Dar!) San Marzano - 12 Black Krim - 4 Kellogg's Breakfast - 4 Campbell 54 - 6 (Thanks, Ox!) K.C. 135 - 6 (Thanks, Ox!) K.C. 135 x Campbell 54 F1 - 6 (Thanks, Ox!) Campbell 54 x Cosmonaut Volkov F1 - 6 (Thanks, Ox!) Dalmatiner - 6 (Thanks, Wiz!) Domaca Pfarrgarten - 6 (Thanks, Wiz!) Amerikanac - 6 (Thanks, Wiz!) Jabucar Novosadski- 6 (Thanks, Wiz!) Old tomato from Strumica, Macedonia - 6 (Thanks, Wiz!) Sungold F1 (want to try for myself) - 4 Supersweet 100 F1 (not my favorite, but Rhonda insists) - 4 Yellow Pear (my neighbors love them) - 4
Blushing Beauty F1 - 6 Guzvara - 6 (Thanks, Wiz!) Botinecka Zuta - 6 (Thanks, Wiz!) Soroksari - 6 (Thanks, Wiz!) Slonovo Uvo - 6 (Thanks, Wiz!) Fefferoni - 6 (Thanks, Wiz!) Unidentified Serbian hot pepper - 6 (Thanks, Wiz!) Jalapeno 'Pizza Pepper' - 6 Mariachi F3 Unidentified sweet cross I'm trying to stabilize - 20 (4 from each of 5 mother plants)
I know this is still small time compared to many of you, but it's over 8 times what I usually do. Wish me luck!
My 2013 Tomato Grow List (With a big THANK YOU to everyone who's traded/sent me seeds this year.) Ignore the symbols after the variety names (FY,M etc.) they designate which bed they'll be planted in. Also some of Tom Wagners segregating stuff is still in the OP list, I just havn't moved it down yet.

I plan to grow the following, this follows on from my 'Early, Bush Paste Tomato' thread (Thank you to Adamus for the first 3!).
Palmwoods Scattalone San Marzano Ropreco Czechs Bush
I'm unsure how many I will grow at the moment, probably I will sow 1/2 a tray of each (12), keep 5 and sell the rest of the plants to other allotment holders. I may add more varieties, it's still early
*Czechs Bush added
Can't wait to hear how they grow. Raymondo gave me a Ropreco this year, It's going gangbusters. It seems to love mild weather. Very prolific. Good Luck to you all.
I live my life like a child running with scissors.
These are the tomatoes coming out of the field. Lynnwood was one of the first ripe, along with Lieven's Teardrop and Piennolo del Vesuvio.
Our favorite tomatoes this year are: Piennolo Lieven's Crazy Horse Sioux Cosmo Dr. Carolyn's Pink
Crazy Horse has rich flavor Dr. Carolyn's Pink great acid balance Sioux Cosmo - not a cherry more like a saladette...good size! Piennolo - the tomato I would keep if I had to throw out everything else. Lieven's is just a really good tomato.
This was so hard because Dar sent me SOOO many good tomatoes this year. There's not a spitter in the bunch.
Of course it's August and I wish there were some earlier tomatoes. In the next photos I'll show some of the vines.

So I don't think it was too much manure because the peppers next to the maters aren't that leafy and have lots of mature fruit, but the tomato plants are so big and leafy I don't know how to pick them. I hate pruning them! It always seems like once you start you have to keep pruning bottom leaves. Some of the tomatoes are taller than the corn. We had a little storm and I had to pick up some of them and pound in more stakes. One has 5 stakes! As usual I have two cages on each, except Stupice which usually just needs one but this year should have had two. The tomatoes are ripening very slowly around here. People think it is the cooler than normal temps but melons, corn and peppers are all fine. So I think it is just the year. So suggestions on how to deal with these huge plants? I am missing ripe fruit I am sure.

Minnie, I got no tomatoes in April, May, June. I got a few in July. They are finally coming on. I think peppers and eggplant love the long slow to heat. But the extra morning coolness has slowed the tomatoes and okra. I'm going out to craw under the giant beasties.
