Cold & dry now. The rain didn't last long. I got about 4-5 inches of rain here. I'm grateful for whatever I can get.

The entire system only gave us 0.65 of an inch. The orginal forecast was for us to get a total of 2 1/2 to 3 inches. So we were thankful for drizzle but certainly needed more. I was visiting with a farmer friend today and they dug some test holes to 5 feet and there was not any sub soil moisture. So we need a lot of rain to catch up.

You folks in Minn & Wis be careful, she's supposed to get -35 today. I'm hulling lentils. It's 65! YES! REAL winter is finally back. Started the cars about ten last night, they start easier if you warm them up the night before and went back in to take a shower. Well I take long showers and got out of the shower. Now I showered down-stairs and I had thrown my dirty clothes in the wash, while my clean clothes were up on the second floor. There was no way I was going to go up get dressed, shut the cars off and undress again, SO, I wrapped a large towel around me, put on my shoes, and went out to the parking lot and shut the cars off. It was only -5F but I found out, if you take a long hot shower, twenty minutes at least, you warm yourself up enough that you can go outside do that and it does not really bother one, plus it freeze dries your hair. It does affect one some how though. When I climbed in bed, my hands got clammy. So I got up wiped myself off with a damp wash rag and all was fine. --------------------- When I become president of the world, it will be a crime punishable by death to speak of "WIND-CHILL" Less than a decade ago they revised DOWN the wind-chill numbers and many in the National Weather service wanted to totally eliminate it, which they should have done. It is an asinine weather-man bs talking head tactic to to scare or make people feel you are telling them something important. Unless one is going to go outside nekked, when it is zero degrees F in a strong wind it means absolutely NOTHING, which is why many at the weather service wanted to get rid of it. All I hear from the weather men is winch chill-wind chill-wind chill-wind chill. Every once in awhile they actually will give the real temperature, but that is not as, as Count Floyd used to say, "REALLY SCARY boys and girls!"

The rain is back in Oakland, just the light Spring stuff; could be raining on the farm, but it may be blocked by the Coast Range. Primo weed-growing weather: too wet to hoe, but warm and damp so they flourish. Oh, well; greens for compost, eventually.

Minus 15°C yesterday, -15°C today, -15C tomorrow... it's winter alright. Also getting snow with it, a little everyday. No really big storms but it sure is sneaking up on us. Also, MIL went off the road yesterday and had to be towed. We were getting all "hm, maybe she shouldn't be driving" about it, but apparently the next person behind her hit the same patch and ended up upside down in the ditch*, so that made us feel "better".
*No serious injuries, happy to report.

It was much needed & of course, not nearly enough. I was rooting for y'all to get more of that rain. Our weather has been so inconsistent that it's really frustrating. It's been very warm & dry here for the last several days. Highs in the upper 70s & lows in the lower 50s. It's a wonder that the wild plants don't throw off their leaves & die of disgust.

Still normal winter temperature, plus or minus zero, but we need snow badly. eight inches is not enough.
