In the laboratory we used Calcium Sulphate as a desiccant. I've often thought that I could take pieces of sheetrock (easily obtained and same ingredient), dry them in the oven, and use them as desiccant for seed storage. But my climate is so dry that I haven't worried about it. I've heard of doing that with epsom salts (Magnesium Sulfate), would gypsum work better?

I would expect Magnesium Sulphate to turn to a fine powder if dehydrated. Calcium Sulphate keeps it's shape when dried.

Is that a good or a bad thing?
