Later this year, hopefully well before Xmas, I'll be moving to the sub-tropics. It's only 500km north of where I am but a complete change climate-wise. It is low and hilly, with hot, humid summers and very mild (almost never a frost) winters. Indeed, most of the tomato growing in this area is done from autumn through to spring. Melons and waterlemons do very well, something to look forward to. I'll be moving to my son's place. He has a house on 1.5 acres with a very large shed half way down the yard. I'll be converting two-thirds of the shed into a spacious flat. He has begun planting sub-tropical and tropical fruit trees, the beginnings of a food forest. The land slopes quite steeply so vegie growing is restricted to a small terraced area near the house. Smaller than my current garden but I'll be able to use the developing forest too I think. Not sure how well I'll cope with the climate. I flag badly in summers here and that's without any serious humidity to speak of. We'll see. I'm looking forward to a new gardening environment though.

Ray, good luck at your new digs! Do your garden work early in the morning before it gets too hot and you'll be fine.

Well, that'll be interesting. Let me know when you are ready for melons...it's not like I don't have a few up my sleeves.
Darn seed inventory. I'm on day 2. So far the only thing I don't have is Jade Numbat! That's because my feeble assistant pulled them out, and ATE the one I saved for seed.
I hope the moves goes well, post us a photo of your new digs, when you get settled and PM me an address!

I've got a little Jade Numbat, of two lines, and a couple (no doubt crossed up between those two) mature squash I need to crack for seed; need some?

Of the four possibilities, which or all? Two are straight from Ox; the other two are no doubt mixed of those.
Re your irrigation problem, we could do a Saturday or Sunday when you're ready; just give me some lead-time notice (two days?), so I can jigger around what I need to haul to the farm; I never spend that gas without a load of something more than my own sorry ass.

I'd like 6 of the Oxbow seeds, if you can spare them.
No worries yet about the irrigation. I'm still starting seeds. Plenty of time to worry later and jiggle and juggle.
Also, Steev's ass is not sorry...Steev, just works too much of it off.

I can send you more Jade Numbat too Holly. I've got jars and jars of it from different generations, fruit shapes, levels of striping, plus easily a pound of seed of #1 cut seed from 2012, which is good since 2013 was a complete squash seed fail.

Congrats on your move Ray. I hate the heat myself, but the range of new crops that just opened up for your future has got to be exciting.

All of the talk about this Jade Numbat has gotten me interested! Oxbow, would you mind sending a few seeds over the rockies? Anything that you've been looking for that I might possibly have?
Good luck at your new place Raymondo, I'm sure you'll do fine! Like Oxbow said, you have a whole new range of possibilities to choose from, both fruit and vegetable.

blackox: IMHO, Ox's F4 line, which he sent me, is better than the F5; more cold-hardy; both were excellent food.
