I am going down to Hutch to, among other things, check my corn down there.
As I said it greened up pretty nicely, although my Indian style corn Red Cherokee mostly fell over or grew at odd angles. I used up the seed and may try new seed to see if that seed packet was just an odd-ball as it has troubles growing straight all years I planted it even when planted in a more protected area.
The earliest sweet corn may be ready but from what I saw last week I will have most becoming ripe at about the same time in two weeks or so. I hope my shoe-pet variety did well as I have always like Country Gentlemen and it will be interesting to see how a hybrid variety of it did.

Dar, I'm going to have to call a certified Arborist to pick the corn if they don't stop growing. They do stop growing don't they?
In a harvested patch of corn, I started a new trial. I took out every other stalk, but left the stump. On each dripper, I put in two bean seeds. There's 2 rows of Mangetout, 2 rows of limas, and two rows of Santa Ana French Filets. I'm hoping they climb the corn stalks and finish up for me around Halloween.
Flower/Sage, I still have some 60 day flour corn left if you want to take a chance. Yes, they are still planting sweet corn down the street from me.

I finally got around to weighing Dar's Drought Tolerant 3 Toed Hickory King. A WHOPPING 45 pounds 4 ounces from 100 seeds. Holy Crap Batman! What a haul!

Holly, I think this cross that I'm working on this year is going to exceed that by 20% or so. I'll try to take a pic tomorrow and post it in the other thread. I'm getting a huge amount of synergy between the Cherokee Squaw and High Oil and High Lysine lines. I am impressed with the total production you got. That is a remarkable rate of return. An ounce of seed produced 45 pounds of corn. That is a return of 720 to 1. Remind me not to get in a corn growing contest with you. Every stalk must have made 3 ears of corn in your garden. Or maybe Leo was out there tying extra ears to the stalk to make you think it was a bumper crop.

The ears were huge. Some of them wouldn't go through the sheller and I had to do them by hand! I did note that every plant had 2 ears. Yes, each and everyone. I'm mightily impressed with your work Dar! Too bad I can't get a dollar per seed like the Bradford Melons! I'd be a rich woman. I guess I'll just have to settle for very corny.
Now I'm sorry I didn't make more room for the Cherokee Squaw! Of course Leo was worried planting 4 varieties of corn. I don't think I could have slipped 5 by him. He wants me to hold to 2 varieties per year going forward. With the weather turning hot and hotter...he's probably right. I'm going to go down from a full acre to 3/4 next year. That's down from 1 1/2 acres. Just think how many less rows I'll have to weed!
