The corns I planted this year of drought and hot wind:
Mandan Lavender parching: total failure
Oaxacan Green: total failure
Malagasy: one plant, of three, survives, looking suicidal
Joseph's Cherry Sweet: one edible ear, a few dry for seed
Blushed Peruvian: struggling, but tasseling and soldiering on at NMT 5'
Stippled Popcorn: disgruntled, but tasseling, silking, and promising to be productive at 5'
White Peruvian: three seeds made three plants, one struggles but perseveres, having badly kinked, but straightening; the other two are vigorous, tallest is 9', no tassels; this is corn to plant in gullies for erosion-control, prop-roots at all lower joints.
I won't be getting food-corn this year, but perhaps the last four are going to produce decent seed-increase for next year, when the rain will surely return.
