So I ordered some North Dakota giant cantaloupe seeds from robsrareandgiantseeds seeds off of ebay. I was quite pumped this spring with the thought of growing one of these behemoths only to find that they are some kind of yellow canary melon. The plants were some of the most vigorous growing lope plants in my garden being unphased by the cucumber beetles and not suffering from wilt like some of the other varieties I planted this year.Even though as they turned yellow realizing they were not giant I was still excited to see how the flavour would turn out so about 2 weeks ago two of the smaller ones started to turn yellow so I figured I would leave them to ripien for a while seeing as we have lost our high temps the past few weeks. I check (look at them) them every day thinking they will turn more of a brighter yellow like the ones from the grocery store. Today one seems to have turned to liquid puke(puke can be somewhat solid I guess)inside and sprayed out a tiny crack on the very top....man it stunk like puke too! so I cut it open and it was liquid inside. I cut the other small one open and it was starting to turn into liquid as well, ahhhh sugar! I picked two of the larger ones which had just started turning yellow a week ago or so. I cut one open and tried it, it was comparable to a bland grocery store honey dew.......bahhhhhh! Too good to feed to the chickens so I guess I will have to choke them down.

Looks like honeydew-ish; always an adventure.

Here is an update , after tossing close to 10 melons to the chickens I found this gem. It did not have the ribbed appearance of all the others having smooth skin and a slight netting to it. It tasted really sweet and had a slight salmon coloring about 1/4 from the seed cavity fading to cream color. So the seeds from this one get planted again! Hopefully some of the offspring are as good. Glenn
