Starting this thread to figure out how I am planting my corn. I have a long enough season(266 days) to get in even 3 plantings if I am lucky but... currently I have like 8ish varieties to growout. Varieties: - Joseph's cherry sweet
- Astronomy Domine (inbred probably)
- high carotene (Cateto, inbred also, only two cobs)
- high carotene x astronomy domine (2 seeds)
- Crook
- Cargill Cuzco
- glass gem
- white flour grex *
My goal is to take the best of each of the varieties. I don't have a mill that would feasibly grind a good amount of corn, so I am aiming for parching, popping and/or roasting corn (*yikes). So what should I cross and what should I try to grow a huge amount of to keep pure? I can't really grow out too many plants, so I guess landraces to avoid inbreeding depression. Maybe just make a mass cross of all the sweets; even include ones like the Cateto (I found it a find roasting corn the few I tried last year). I want to try to get all the planting in early since later the whole area while be taken over by sweet potato, squash, and melon later on.

Just got the Sand Hill seed catalog today. The amount of varieties of corn seed they offer is just amazing.
