While wandering around Tradewinds fruit, I also noticed they have gotten seed for Japanese Cream Flesh. Haven't seen that one for a while, and seem to recall it was a pretty good one.

Castanea, I didn't plant last year , due to the drought, kinda disappointed with your review. They are on my list for this year.

Some people do like soft fleshed watermelons. Many people like the Sweet Siberian watermelon which also turns to mush pretty quickly, but it does have a lot more flavor than Bradford. You might like the Bradfords. They're not bad. They just aren't anything special.

Baker Creek has an amazing number of watermelon varieties for sale. According to their 2016 The Whole Seed Catalog, they had a taste test of over 100 varieties last year in California, and there will be another this September at the Heirloom Expo in Santa Rosa, California. These were the winners in 2015: Ledmon, Peacock Striped, Blacktail Mountain, Orange Flesh Tendersweet, Chris Cross I have grown Orange Flesh Tendersweet and Blacktail Mountain and they are both very good. I grew Chris Cross once and it was above average.

I am harvesting my Japanese Cream Fleshed Suika now. It is Soooo good - sweet and very refreshing without the cloying sweetness of many others. As I am collecting the seeds in the paddock my mouth is continually full, and I have to bring some home to my mother every day as she loves them too. I will be growing them every season definitely.

I've grown Japanese and Chinese watermelons in the past and most tended to be less sweet than American varieties.
