They're Gone, so Grungy doesn't have to process them. Today the annual Great Tomato Pickoff happened. Had close to 40 people show up, some coming from 130 miles away. Total out the door today, about 2500 lbs. We have already pulled just under 2000 lbs for seeding, and a few friends, and have 800 to 1000 lbs left in our "private" patch. Production turned out to be better than I thought over the summer, but less than I thought before the weather went wonky. As a side note, I am in the 2009 Old Farmers Almanac, in an article called "Tomato Love". considering the guy who wrote it is not a gardener, he didn't do too bad translating my babbles into coherent English. For those of you who don't have access to a copy, this link will let you have a peek: picasaweb.google.com/TVgrunt/OLDFARMERSALMANACCheers Dan

That's wonderful Dan. Only people of exception can be so generous as you are.
It makes me proud to have you people as friends. Thanks on behalf of all the gardeners for what you do for bio-diversity and your community.
And you hug your wonderful Val for me please...

Wow! That's a lot of tomatoes! So glad for you two, having a decent season, and so great of you to have an annual pick off like that.

Val & Dan,
Wow.
I didn't realize how much you grew or did, to get the seed you so freely offer.
I hope I can at least pay it forward, if I can't find a way to repay your kindness and work.

Pugs, paying it forward is more than payment enough. We enjoy what we do. Hope you will find the same pleasures as you pay it forward, too. Cheers, Val and Dan (grungy and grunt)

I told a friend about how you guys do this every year and she got so excited - I'm sure we'll both be making it to your pick off next year . ETA - and by next year I mean this year because for some reason I'm still counting January 2009 as 2008 .

Sure hope you do. Will get back to you when I have the exact date set. Probably Sept. 13. It is the Sunday afternoon after the Creston Fall Fair, starting at 1 PM until you're done or they are all gone.
