That's interesting. I wish they'd elaborate though.

Ah, it's not the actual production of the seed that is affected. It's because they are members of the same family, therefore, CrossPollination is an issue here.

Yeah, I sort of doubt that it will cross or actually effect seed production. Don't know why they say that, interesting though..

Possibly being fertilized by the wrong sort of pollen, or only partial compatibility could cause the ovules to abort or malform. This might by a way that seed production could be affected.

Cross pollination of fennel and dill would probably have a undesired effect, as we use the seeds to flavor things... it is like corn I guess...
I just got a few seeds of wild french fennel...I'll see if it is a thoughy next winter and tryto grow some for the people here...

Frenchie, What is Wild French Fennel?? Your new nickname?? ;D
The SBA is cute... But I think I got this thing licked... I was wondering where my Baker Creek catalogue was, until I realized that they now want $5 U.S. to send one up here because of the new postal rates to Canada. First my subscription to Poultry Press has to bite the dust because of this. Now the seed catalogues start falling by the wayside...
I thought about paying the $5 for a blinding millisecond but I managed to tell myself that I do NOT need more seeds from B/C....
That's my story and I'm sticking to it...DagNabbit..........

Val, I like the pretty pictures in the catalogue, what can I say?
But I'm not being sucked in by the money grab so that's the end of that.... The thing that pisses me off though is, there are members on iDig saying how they got 2 and 3 copies of this years catalogue. And in previous years, when orders were shipped, they included a catalogue, which is like putting the cart in front of the horse don't you think?
They need to improve their recordkeeping so that there are no duplicates sent which in turn would keep their costs way down and they wouldn't lose business because of the "need" to gouge for a catalogue.
Nuff Said.

On second thought. I have bought on a very rare occasion but almost anything that you can buy can be bartered or traded for.

As I meet more generous gardeners like yourself Grungy, my need to 'buy' is less intense. Previously, I could not get the seeds I wanted anywhere else and sometimes the seeds I'm looking for are not available even commercially (or at least in a language I can read). At any rate, as head therapist, I vote to the name from SBA to SCA standing for Seed Collectors Anon. Meeting to be held here frequently.
