Johno: I'm not a huge veggie fan, but I like growing them nonetheless. I'd like to experiment with different tomatoes and peppers. (That big heart-shaped one that Kara grew looks very interesting, was that Teton de Venus? Are there other big heart-shaped tomatoes like that? I've never tried one, what do they taste like?) I haven't done much with any of the more unusual varieties. I tried spinach and beets in the ground this past year, but the yields weren't very big. Maybe I'd have better luck trying them in containers for next year? I'd like to try some beans again, though I'm not a big green bean eater. Other members of my family are though, so maybe I can find room to set up two or three buckets with a teepee-type set up. Maybe a lima bean variety too. There are too many options and I'm not very decisive, lol. I also have carrot seed that I didn't plant last year, so I need to find room for that too. Can you plant carrots in containers as well? I'd love to do beets again and as per flower's suggestion, I might try some lettuce and other greens on the shaded part of the deck. CanadaMike is going to be sending me a grab bag of all sorts of things, but I'm planning to do more with the garden this summer, so I'll gladly take any offers for more seeds!

Hi Bluelace! I'm part Canadian too (from Newfoundland), lol. I was in Nova Scotia a few years ago and went up to Price Edward Island. Beautiful country! I haven't been to Toronto since I was a little kid, but would love to return some day.

I do the little carrots in containers and overplant with lettuce. I liked "Little Fingers". This yr I am doing more carrots in the ground. If American Gardener remembers to pack the Teton de Venus seed Kara sent me, I'll share a few with you. I'm sure she sent a good amt. It is cool looking. But you can check with Grunt & Grungy about heart shaped varieties. They keep a few seeds laying around the house.

Are Newfs allowed to spawn with people from the Mainland? I know that it's illegal to send or receive potatoes from the islands. :eek:

I haven't actually been to Newfoundland, but I have been to Wales. I'm guessing that there's a joke here similar to the one the English have with the Welsh? {insert sheep joke here}

Any place that has a Time Zone that is 30 minutes more than the next one (eg right now, it's 8:30 Eastern Time, 9:30 in the Maritimes, but it's 10 pm Newfie time? )has to be a little weird. The island is either too far from Mainland Canada OR Not Far Enough
