Hello I'm Margarida, and I live in Porto, Portugal ... You should know about it by its famous wine - Port Wine. I'm an urban grower. I live in an apartment, on the 9th floor, with just a terrace, but I love to garden, and I'm a really passionate of hot peppers! So, last season I managed to accommodate more than 400 vases in my little terrace, where I have all kind of hot peppers, some cherry tomatoes, all aromatics that you can think of, specially Basil that it's another of my passions. I even managed to have some cutting lettuce ! I'm a natural gardener and a passionate seed saver when I know how to do it ! For instance, I couldn't save the seeds from my lettuces because I never saw them ! I just started my urban vegetable garden last season, so I'm a bit fresh to this entire fascinating world. I also have in my terrace some citrus little trees, one olive tree, and even a small pine ... Well, I've talked too much already ! I know I would love to be among you! Hope the reciprocate will be also true ! Let's go!

Hi biorag, thank you I know Kara as well... we all belong to the same tomatoes forum, as I believe you do also ? I'm more of a pepper grower than tomato, I must confess, but you all are almost converting me ! Last year I had 2 varieties of cherry tomatoes, this season, with the offers and trades, I have more than 50 ! I don't know where I will be able to grow all that, but it's a challenge ! Nice to find you here

Margarida: We have two tomatoes whose origins are in Portugal, and both were family heirlooms there. Da Costa's Portuguese was salvaged from a sandwich at my inlaws in Atougaiea de Balea, and Joe's Portuguese was saved from a salad at another inlaws place in Casais de Maestro Mendo. Both places are just a few miles from Peniche. I never did get up to Porto, or any farther south than Lisbon, but Portugal is a very beautiful country. Have fun here, the rest of us do.

And another warm welcome to you, Margarida! It's my understanding that we let the lettuce bolt and send up a flower stalk. Tie up if needed. Save seed from plants that bolt last. Happy gardening. john
