I knew that as soon as I started reading this book that I would be recommending it. ;D
Arboretum American - A philosophy of the Forest by Diana Beresford-Kroeger is a beautifully written book profiling 20 North American trees. It details how to grow, use and design with them.
This is a political book written by a self described 'renegade scientist' who is on a mission to reforest the world to protect not only ourselves but our planet. She pushes all the big buttons here from cancer to climate change.
Though not a comprehensive guide to all NA trees and not a technical how-to, though it does have that element, it is filled with interesting detail including our historical connection to these trees and potential agricultural uses.
At the heart of this book is that magical moment that we all feel when we enter a forest and our made small by it. I highly recommend it.
