Hi all,
I have just found out that there is a red onion called 'Red Wethersfield'. I grew up in Wethersfield in England (presumably the place where Wethersfield, Connecticut is named after). A packet of these seeds would be a great birthday (this Saturday!) present for my gardening farther, who still lives in Wethersfield, England. But sadly there are no stockists in England who have it.
Does anyone have any they could send over? I would, of course, be happy to provide something back in return.
Thanks,
James

One place that I've found them is the Seed Savers Exchange but they are bloody expensive at $2.75 for 100 seeds. I've bought them twice from SSE outlets but as plants. Both times were very poor results.

Hi Martin,
Thanks for your reply. I have just had a look on the SSE website and there is no mention of them. I would be happy to pay that for them, but as I say I cannot see them on there.
Cheers,
James

I see what you mean. Nobody ever said that the SSE wants to make ordering from them very convenient. Have to download the entire catalog at 14.27 MB, on pdf. Red Wethersfield onions are on page 26. And when you finally get to where they are, there's some sort of a red and white bull's eye that needs a magnifying glass to make out. It means that we're out of luck via "Crop Failure"!
(Did find the htm vegetable listing and you are correct that they are not there. Most confusing!)

There is a supplier of seeds here in Australia. I'd be more than happy to purchase a packet or two (or however many) for you as the supplier does not ship overseas. If you were able to track down a couple of packets of the zucchini (courgette) Black Forest F1 (Thompson & Morgan) that would be grand. Of course, it doesn't matter if you can't. PM me with your address.

Hi Raymondo,
Thank for your message and kind offer. I have actually found a UK supplier now, which will be handy as I could do with them by next weekend.
However, I will happily get you some Black Forest F1's and send them over. PM me with your address and I'll sort it out.
I hope you are ok where you are, obviously we have been hearing about the terrible fires and our thoughts are with all those affected.

Ok, just contacted the UK supplier and it seems he is out of them. So can I please take you up on your kind offer? I will PM you with some details and we can go from there.
Cheers,
James

Just as an aside, James ...
I grew up in Braintree, just a few miles up the road from Wethersfield, and know it well. Small world!

Hi Rebsie,
How strange! As you say small world. Actually it was via your blog that I found this forum and Dave's seed trials - so thanks for that. I have been getting inspired about the idea of doing some plant breeding, and so watching your pea trials with interest.
All the best,
James
