The nokkelost I am used to eating does not contain Cumin. I would know the taste. It contains whole caraway seed. That is a good comparison pic. Looks like it would be especially difficult to tell caraway from Queen Anne's lace. Could I tell by crushing the leaves and smelling them? Thanks

Thanks I must admit that I haven't eaten Nokkelost for many years as I don't really like the cheese itself. Maybe I'll have to buy some and check myself. I know that there are at least two types of Nokkelost here. I've checked a couple of web sites and both claim its cumin.... The leaves are only mildly aromatic as is Queen Anne's Lace, not sure I could do it without a bit of practice. Queen Anne's Lace doesn't grow wild here, but yes telling the leaves apart would be even more difficult. Would have to look it up to tell you how to tell them apart before flowering.

The nokkelost is a brand called Tine. I looked a pic of the packaging. It has both caraway & cumin and, surprisingly, cloves. lol The store said they have trouble getting it imported. All I know is it is tastier that Gjedost. If I can get the caraway to grow, I will get a comparison pic with the QE Lace. I always keep a few growing anyway, as the goats like the root.

Nøkkelost (Norwegian: "key cheese"), also seen in Swedish spelling as Nökkelost and sometimes called kuminost (cumin cheese), is a Norwegian cheese flavored with cumin and cloves, not with caraway seeds, as is often mistaken.

Welcome, lara! Also, anyone ever try breeding caraway for roots? I'd be pleased to participate in the effort if it's ongoing. The only source of caraway seed I know of in the US is Fedco: www.fedcoseeds.com/seeds/search?item=4507
