Hello everyone! So nice to make your aquantance sorta..I have a small dairy farm (2 acres) in the red rock country of Utah. Hot summers, cold winters, elevation 5000 Ft. My slice of Heaven is in the mouth of a box canyon with red sandstone cliffs all around, Beautiful. I'm always planting more than I can water but I can't help it. I have a greenhouse , orchard, large home garden, small water garden with koi and I just need more water. I dont know how to say this but.. I collect seed I'm definately interested in trading seed but mine are just end of season bargains so maybe I could send postage to get started trying some of these amazing varietys. What is a delicious tomato to start with? How about melons, cucumbers, broccoli. How do I get started?

Welcome plantnut! Nice to have you here. You'll find many of us don't require a trade or even a SASE to get some seed. Wintersown will send out seeds for a SASE, check this link for instructions. Trudi (Wintersown) also posts here. www.wintersown.org/wseo1/YourChoiceTomatoSASE.htmlGrunt and Grungy will be posting soon and they are quite generous with their seeds. If you'll PM me your mailing address, I will send you some tomato seeds to start with, Tamina, Beefsteak and Red Brandywine (Landis Strain, I think, I've got to check the seed pack I used last year), and I have some extra Minnesota Midget melon seed I can include as well. I hope you enjoy it here, Pugs

Eelcome plantnut. Hope you enjoy our not so little group. Feel free to jump in any old time on any subject. Especially your own gardens and orchards. As pugs just said if it's tomatoes in the famous words of Bob Barker, come on down. If you go to our blogspot at grungysgarden.blogspot.com it will lead you to our albums and lists. What is it that we tell everyone - oh yes - go for it. We also have a small assortment of beans if you are interested.
Cheers, Val aka grungy and Dan aka grunt

Welcome, plantnut! I don't envy your water situation out there. There are other members here that can advise you on some drought-resistant varieties. Are there any varieties you have in mind to try this yr? You would be surprised at what's in people's seed collections here. lol And most have no problem with SASEs. People are very generous here.

Welcome from me too!
Sounds like a great little spread you've got there. Looking forward to hearing more about it as the season wears on.

Welcome. Great to have you aboard. I have plenty of water but not a lot of space. Too bad we can't trade. I'm looking forward to hearing more about your gardens.

Yes Plantnut, welcome! Apart from the water situation, it sounds like you have a great location. Is your dairy "staffed" by cows or goats? We milk two to three goats, so I don't exactly call our place a "dairy." Still, whether it's one or a hundred... I know the routine . George

The first time I made butter in the food processor I had this big look of amazement when I realized my son was just amazed that something as simple as butter just had his dad completely amazed. Its a shame but the great state of NC doesn't allow the sale of raw milk I wanted to buy a portable milking machine several times but somehow I always end up hand milking. I have to admit sometimes when kids are around the barn its a lot of fun for me, but not necessarily for the cow. I've never tried to make cheese but sounds interesting, care to give us a short class? and please tell us about the types of cheese's you make and sale. cff No hand milking here, we have a two cow milking parlor 150 gal bulk tank, state liscenced and inspected to sell raw milk and make raw milk cheese.
