Thanks Bunkie. Not sure what is going on. They all pretty well received the same fermentation treatment. We keep scratching the old noodles and work to figure it out.

Val, I received the Guido seeds from you in the spring of '08. I've had 5 of 8 germinate.

I had just a bit of Guido seed left over, I think from 2006. I decided to grow them again after all the talk here. I have five that came up and are doing very well, I'm not sure how many I planted, but couldn't have been many more. So those seeds were really good, even if older and simply stored in a box at room temperature.
Do you want me to try and save seed from them if we get a good year?
I am also growing Zigan, Dar, Dubrava, Jagodka, Rhoades, Vova Yellow, Orange Jubilee, Stupice, Clear Pink Early, Van Wert Ohio, and Russian Persimon, all of which I believe were from seeds you had sent me back in 2006, and a few are from saved seed originating from your seeds. Any of those you would like me to stock up on for your seed bank? I am growing a bunch of others as well, but they are much more common, I don't know if there are any that you would be interested in.

Sammyqc, I would love you to save seed from Guido '06 to compare with '09 just to check genetic drift. As for you common ones if you can send me a list of what you have I can run it against the seed bank list and let you know whether or not we have it saved yet. It is quite possible that you have ones that aren't in the bank as of now as we have be concentrating on the rarer varieties trying to get them safe before they disappear. Hopefully, I would love to have a good sample of all 14,000+ varieties tuck away some day, just as an insurance policy for genetic diversity.

Yesterday I started a few things. Got some kale, broccoli and small cabbages, along with a few swiss chard. Hoping to get the pink or red stems this time. Got yellow last year. The pack of seeds is supposed to be a mix of colors.
Started some filler flowers as well to put around the veg and other flowers to fill out my flower border in front.
I need to go get more seeding mix stuff, and next week we will be starting a lot more.

Okay Bunkie, Here's the list, mostly just online photos of tomatoes, but I threw in a couple on peppers, and one with cucurbits. Most are catalogue sites, but the photos are good, even if you do have to click links to get the better photos. The last on the list is nothing to do with tomatoes or gardening as such. It's just a site of one guys public domain photos, and he will point his camera at just about anything. Some of the photos, especially the macros of insects and plants, are just spectacular. I can't find the links to a couple that I remember, but if I do, I'll post them then. www.appalachianseeds.com/tomato-plants/tomato-plant-catalogsev.lternet.edu/~jnekola/Heirloom/tomatoesC.htm#craigspotatoleafwww.victoryseeds.com/catalog/vegetable/tomato/tomato.htmlmitglied.lycos.de/rkraft/Tomatenfotos/galerie.htmwww.tatianastomatobase.com/nctomatoman.topcities.com/MI_FL_J_Pics/Tomatoes/www.tomatenundanderes.at/Tomatensamen.htmlwww.tomatengarten.de/ventmarin.free.fr/passion_tomates/passion_tomate.htmwww.tradewindsfruit.com/tomato_seeds.htmwww.pbase.com/chiles400www.peppermania.com/www.kcb-samen.ch/shop/www.pdphoto.org/index.php

If I may...although in french, Ventmarin has a database of over 12,000 tomatoes. With lots of infos. Just use babel fish and translate it.
Makes me wonder who has time there to sow tomatoes....
