Not much to say and very little new here. Just happy winter is almost over here in southern Idaho! My basement is crammed full of seedlings. I only grow heirlooms. Some I have had for 10 years. My Arkansas Travelers are almost six inches today. Yea, I had cabin fever and started them two weeks ago too early. I have cabbage that are starting to grow out of thier pots too. Have you ever noticed that when you transplant you wind up with less space? So, I been rearranging my seedling tables and grow lights. Now, everything fits in there but me!
I also grow mushrooms. I converted a corner in my basement to a clean room with a flow hood and a central air system with a laboratory hepa air filter. The only time I get contamination is when I isolate spores from the wild and that is rare. I just use agar with antibiotic now. Works real well.
I grow oysters, Portabello, shitake, and regular buttons. Did you ever consider getting fresh mushrooms from a store and just cloning them? I would never do that!
I also have 3 quad Auto pot systems and a 1000 watt grow light crammed in my basement where I grow tomatos and cukes and bell peppers and a few other veggies in the winter. I am in the process of removing a mushroom grow table and replacing it with a 6' X 6' lettuce grow raft system. I am going to build it out of 2 X 6's and line it with Firestone Pond Liner. I'll hang a 400 watt grow light over it and that will add a little more light to my 3rd Auto pot. I want to grow cabbage in that.
Speaking of cabbage, I absotively, Posolutly love cabbage. I think they a beautiful plants. I just ordered 4 different types from England. Three different Offenhams and Cabbage Filderkraut seed. I want to have one that will overwinter here in Idaho. I hear the Offenham cabbage is one of the most cold hardy. We shall see. I also grow Tronchuda...YUMMY!
I guess to sum it up, I am a Hermit type Hooligan, old Rock & Roller ( Beatles and Stones) that really has little use for the world as it has become, and the trouble I see on the horizon. When it all goes totally off the deep end, I'll be here having a salad supreme, a slice of sweet melon, and a nice cup of Earl Grey.
