Driving home this evening, I was listening to talk radio. Heard an ad for this website extolling the importance of purchasing one of these "Survival Seed Banks" for your family. survivalseedbank.com/Check out the seed selection (towards the bottom of the page). They only selected one tomato variety. Siberian. Why would you select a determinate tomato? Wouldn't you want a tomato that would produce all summer long AND leave you with a bunch of green ones to fry up in the fall? Their "nearly indestructible" container looks suspiciously like a two-liter bottle, eh? ;D Read the copy ... it's quite entertaining ... to believe you need to be: - Bad at math (their discount ain't what they say it is) - Uninformed about GMO, hybrid and "terminator" seeds - Just plain gullible Which describes the American public and makes me scream inside my head ... "WHY DIDN'T I THINK OF THIS FIRST!!!"

Wait, maybe that bottle is their "Nitro Seed Starter Solution." Woo-hoo!!
The actual "Indestructible Survival Seed Bank" container looks like PVC pipe with two end caps.
At $129 a pop, they must be selling some to be advertising on a major talk radio station and top-rated syndicated show.
P.T. Barnum (supposedly) said it best ...

It's on during coast to coast all the time. The person narrating the commercial is Alex Jones. I know some people really like him a lot, but I think he is kinda full of it. Just likes the idea of being famous and willing to sell out anybody who is actually doing something so that they are not as awesome as he is.
Anyway, I'm ordering five of them.. just kidding.

Is the food situation really that bad, or is this just scaremongering?

That is hilarious! $129 for that, what a scam. I really, really hate people who use fear mongering as an advertising tactic.

Silverleaf, Bloody Butcher corn isn't that hard to find. I don't have any, but if you want some, I've still got aseed order or two to make, I'll get you some.
Do you want some Red Queen hybrid sweet corn too? I've got some of that I can send you as well.

What show was on that hour when the commercial aired? I'm curious! It was a Sean Hannity re-broadcast on 610 AM in Columbus. They're the big AM station in central Ohio. Heard them again today during the local drive-home show. Hilarious, dramatic commercial ... reminds me of the Y2K hysteria. www.hannity.com/

Ah interesting!
I knew that the Genesis Communication Network carried that ad and it appears on Alex Jones, Dr Stan, Power Hour radio shows. Not sure if it shows up on Jeff Rense's show though, but he just changed carriers. I've heard the ad for about a year now, along with the one for a dehumidifier which costs a couple thousand. yikes!
Yeah it is fear mongering. Lots of city folk who have never gardened in their lives buying that stuff think they are doing good and can live on corn and beans without any thought of plant care and food preservation. But what's really sad is most people who bought it don't have a clue about gardening and will most likely have huge crop failures. Then if things do get bad (which I hope doesn't happen) the people who have gardens will be targets of those that didn't prepare.
Lots of people on YouTube show their food stash. It's crazy. One guy does his videos in front of a wall of stacked boxes of canned green beans and bottled water. lol
It's refreshing to be a member of a forum where the folks are generally well-informed. Wish I found you all sooner!

Yeah, most people who buy these things probably won't even ever plant them.
On my way home last night a heard a new radio commercial that went something like this: "One in five copies of computer software is pirated. Can you imagine how it would effect the auto industry if these were stolen cars? (uh huh..) You can now report software piracy confidentially and may recieve up to one million dollars in reward."
.. :l

Wow. Wait until the message is about seeds...... One in five plants in your neighbors garden came from illegal seeds. Don't eat the produce: report them! Comes with a $1 million reward.
Sad.

Such is the value of a dollar. I'd like to know who is buying them so that I can avoid them. They must have viral stupiditis.
