Turned out to be quite a storm. Power outages, poles snapped and trees downed. Picked up another 1 1/3'' of rain in about 20 minutes.

It has gone very quickly from cold and wet (more rain than any time in history here in Chicago) to 90's and very humid. I covered my lettuce with shade cloth, but I think this is going to burn my peas. I'm hoping this will spur some growth in the tomatoes, melons, peppers, and eggplants.

We have been in a drought but got a nice rain Sat. But the heat is setting in now. Upper 90's to 100 for most of the next ten days. I don't trust anything longer than that. Have some fruit set. Hopefully will get some more. Plants are really growing. The main thing is to keep them healthy for the next 6 weeks and the fruit set should pick up again if the plants survive. And hopefully we will keep getting a little rain now. We are still several inches behind normal. And not far from us they are ahead of normal. Just hope the winds don't kick up with the heat. That is what really sets a garden back. Jay
