Would you believe it, I looked out of my bedroom window this morning and just happened to glance across at the runner bean which are all in flower at the moment, the time was around 5.30am and the bees were working the flowers like mad at that unearthly time of the morning, dozens of them- looks like it is going to be a very good year for beans, I never thought that bees were up that early, as I was usually used to seeing them buzzing around at around ten-ish am,-the little buzzer's ;D

I don't know what your temperature is this time of year, or what species of bee they were, but honeybees have been known to work flowers in bright moonlight. Never seen it myself, but there's always a first time!

In my experience honey bees get out working as soon as it's light enough to see. When we lived in Mexico it was common knowledge, down there, that Africanized bees would work by moonlight and in the rain.

Mine work in the rain regularly. Really heavy rain can knock them out of the air and cause a lot of deaths, so you won't see them flying in a thnderstorm, but they can cope with light rain perfectly well as long as it's warm.
