When I was kid i would run down by a spring where It grew wild and would pick the young stems which tasted like black liquorish, I didn't know the name of the plant so I just called it black liquorish plant. now days I wouldn't even try to pick it from the wild as there is just to much poisonous hemlock growing around here now, just as I wouldn't try to collect wild carrots either. I do miss the taste of it at times , mabe at some point when I can find a good place to plant some I might get a plant or two, it is a nice plant that is quite useful. George W
