This years albums are up now. Tomatoes are about 2/3 represented so far, at picasaweb.google.com/tvgrunt. Beans, melons, peas, squash, and tobacco are 90% represented at picasaweb.google.com/danvaltrial. Still don't have photos of the dry beans, or squash or melon internals, but they will follow in due time, and we will post when ever there are new photos. All addresses for albums and seed lists will be posted on our blog when ready ( grungysgarden.blogspot.com ). Cheers Dan & Val

I have to say that I am very green with envy! Your garden is great and so is your view! I just wish mine were so nice- All I get to look at is the neighbor's and the golfcourse (it is only a couple of years old so it is mainly a field with flags and carts and baby trees lol)

Grungy, can I get some samples of the tobacco seed to go with my collection? Do you have my Robert Johnson Mississipi Delta White Burley yet? If not I will send it to you.
Edited to add: some of the tobaccos on your page are a bit outcrossed, which to my mind is a very good thing, make sure you select hard on those varieties showing a tendancy to variation for what you like.
Some pointers:
wide leaf types make for good cigar binders thick and narrow leaves represent madole or chewing and pipe tobacco rounded type leaves from the bottom of the plants leading up to narrow and pointed leaves at the top with the stem showing some amount of "white" are the best for ciggarette type tobaccos.

Alan, Dan will probably get back to you later on this but I thought I would drop a quick note just to let you know we have seen this. We have, I believe, 11 or 13 accessions from GRIN. Would prefer some seed directly from those packets, or some seed from our own garden, since they have not been segregated or isolated I won't say that they are pure strains, or would you like some of both? Again I can give you the names of the mother varieties but the pollen is questionable.
Thanks for the tips they will come in handy.
Cheers, Grungy / Val

Alan: We have 13 PCGRIN accessions, of which we planted 10. We can send you seed from the Original packets and/or what we grew out this year, your option. What we grew out this year was most decidedly not segregated, as you can see from the garden photos, so varietal purity is almost certainly compromised, but we are going to have LOTS of seed for them. Johno, we haven't forgotten you. Same offer holds true for you, any or all are yours for the asking. This is what we have from PCGRIN PI 543922 - NSSL - Nicotiana tabacum Va. 116 TC 609 PI 578865 - NSSL - Nicotiana tabacum PY KY. 171 TC 613 (Seed pack shows it as PI 598865) PI 260369 - TOB - Nicotiana tabacum VIRGINIA TI 1423 * PI 404952 - TOB - Nicotiana tabacum (S.P.I. 27525) TI 78 * PI 404993 - TOB - Nicotiana tabacum PUMPANO TI 78 PI 494151 - TOB - Nicotiana tabacum CELIKAN TI 1669 PI 511808 - TOB - Nicotiana tabacum CU-2 TC278 PI 551307 - TOB - Nicotiana tabacum NC 12 TC 346 PI 551308 - TOB - Nicotiana tabacum NC 13 TC 347 PI 551337 - TOB - Nicotiana tabacum MARYLAND MAMMOTH TC 507 * PI 552339 - TOB - Nicotiana tabacum YELLOW PRIOR TC456 PI 552452 - TOB - Nicotiana tabacum MARYLAND TC 505 PI 552475 - TOB - Nicotiana tabacum COKER 213 TC 268
The * denotes the ones we haven't planted. You can see what the plants are like in the albums, although this year might not be a fair comparison between the varieties, as everything is wonky so far. I have beans that have yet to put out a flower, and ones that only started to put out flowrs two weeks ago. I have a variety that has been flowering since the second week of July, and only set its first been last week. On the other hand, I have varieties that are already finished, and gave good production. Just really wacky this year. Tomatoes are only now starting to put out any amount of ripe fruit, and even that is in greatly reduced quantities from what I usually get. The one variety that has surprised me with its vigor this year is GUILDO PETRABONI. It has done what GUIDO usually does, but didn't this year, and they are planted side by side. Enough bitching and complaining. Anyone else wanting tobacco seed, let us know when we post our list, and we will do our best to accommodate. Cheers Dan

Hell, I am probably one ofthe biggest smokers here, but GHEE, growing tobaco will never be a priority of mine. And tobaco was one of the biggest crops in the next county close to mine.
Are them smokes better, like in better like tomatoes are better in our garden???

Alan, would love a sample of your Robert Johnson Mississipi Delta White Burley. You know us we can't resist an offering that will grow here so that it can be tried and added to the seed bank. <grin>
