Although we would love to do a gift exchange here, it's just not gonna work for us. Our members are spread out far and wide across the globe. So we came up with an alternative way to show our love of gardening, and G & G's saying of "pass it foward". All you have to do is put 2-3 varietes of small seeds in a greeting card and send it to your giftee. You will get a card with seed from someone else. Its an easy way to send seed. They go through the mail fine. I have gotten seeds from Europe just in paper & they make it. Just don't put seeds like squash or sunflower that crack easily. Tomato, pepper, eggplant, lettuce, onion...Other suggestions? You can PM your addy to myself or LavandulaGirl. We are pairing the names on November 16. That gives a card 6 weeks to make it to it's destination. I don't think there's any better way to start the New Year than with some new seeds.

You both have my address: sign me up!
I'd add that if you are still worried about seeds getting damaged, you could put a small piece of paper towel - 1 sheet thick - inside the card with the seeds for extra cushion to ease your mind. But I too have received tomato seeds from across the pond with only paper protecting them, and they grew fine.

You know I have your addy. lol Telsing's too. Gotta check LG's, make sure I updated hers. Thanks everyone. Good idea with the paper towel. Just don't make the envelope bulky and noticeable. lol If you are sending within your own country and want to send a BE, go ahead. But remember its a gift, not a trade. I would really like alot of people to participate. So even if you haven't posted in a while or are new to the forum, join up. You don't have to post here. Just shoot one of us a PM. We would love to see some cards leave North America too.

I dont know how you intend to do this, but I have a pound or so of five or six varieties of tomatoes. If these are going out from a central source, which it doesnt appear is the case, let me know. I can supply a few varieties, to the cause....

Silver, thanks! - the way it works is that you sign up, and are given the addy of another participant. You then send a holiday card to that person, containing some seeds. The idea is that each participant gets a little holiday present. So we wouldn't need a stash of seeds, but would be happy to have you be one of the card givers.

This sounds fun, count me in!
I've used a 'handmade' cards when sending over seas. You know, one of the ones with all of the things glued on them. It costs extra to send, but it sure lets you hide a lot in there and explains the bulkiness and odd shapes.
