You and me both Alan. Feel free to buy a tropical island and invite us all there. My family will join you (though my kids might complain).

I'd much rather have a temperate island...but someplace that doesn't get too cold in the winter, but still has a definable winter, so there are enough 'chill hours' for fruit production...something around a USDA Zone 8. It wouldn't hurt that it would be 50 or more miles from the mainland.

How about a gulf island? My parents live on Gabriola - lovely, though they have to be careful with water. If we rig up something to desalienate sea water, we'd be home free!
Oh there is the soil though... BC granite is what I like to call it.

Soil is fixable...location and general climate aren't...

I'm inside so yup, I'm warm enough. It's strangely warm here at just below zero with light snow falling. We are expecting an ICE STORM this weekend. Eek.

Well, not cold here. It is 30 degrees.
We got 8" of snow last night, expecting another 4-6" today, 6-8" tonight, and 4-6" during the day tomorrow.
Going to make driving to grandmother's house today.....interesting.
90 miles. Will see how it goes. Have to go dig out the Ford Explorer.

We are suppose, to have a white Christmas. I really have my doubts, yesterday, it was too warm to wear a coat, and yet a bit nippy without one. Right as I type this it is raining.

I think the common vernacular is 'crappy' to refer to this kind of weather:

Oh dear, the ice really is so much worse than snow. Right at freezing F here right now, Christmas day started out at 52F! That is very warm for us, but the temps fell throughout the day and was downright nippy by late afternoon chore time. We have been down to 16F so far, but many shrubs such as the roses and wolfberry still have leaves. I have some roses that hold onto green leaves all winter.
