Hmm, well, I think that is how it sounded in my head, Siletz, so I guess I don't get it. I thought I was missing out on some racy tomato joke!

I guess being from Oregon, we are so used to everyone mispronouncing all of our place names we come to expect it.
Sorry, no ribald tomato jokes.

Dave: When I use the link, it opens 2008 tomato growouts alpabetical: Sheet 1 with the last entry being Tip Top. If you have a version of excel to work on off line, do your work there, select and copy the additions, and paste the add in in the next available line in column "A". For that matter, use any text editor or word processor, make the list, and paste it in the next line in "A".
Just had a minor "brainstorm", and copied your list, and pasted it into a text editor that gives you line count. It says (after deleting all of the empty lines the copy produced) 948 lines. Initially, I thought there might be a built in limit on the length of document possible, so I took my own grow out list (which is finally ready for release) and pasted it in 7 times in a row. It works properly doing that, so it's not a built in limit. Try pre-making your list of additions, and pasting it in, and see if that breaks your bottleneck. Or try copying what you have in the online document and pasting it in a new document, and adding to that. That's about all I can think of, right now. I do hope you get it to work properly for you. Cheers Dan
Had another "brainstorm" just as I was about to post the above, and copied your list into a new spreadsheet, and I got the same screwed up line count you did. The fix for it is to drag the column width to where it doesn't wrap the text anymore, and your line count adjusts to correct number. So stupid simple you have to trip on it to find it, like I did. I actually had 1940 rows when I did the paste, but it drops back down to 948 when you widen the column. So there's your fix Cheers Dan

Ok.. i'll try and figure it out later... I'm done working today.
I was just working on it a little earlier deleting some of the duplicates.
Don't have excel on my computer... so what i was doing was putting all the names into the spreadsheet.. having it arrange it in aphabetical order... then copying it and pasting it into notepad on my computer.. that way it was easier to find all the duplicates.
Then i'd add a couple more.. and copy and paste from notepad back into the spreadsheet.
Think i solved the problem just by adding another sheet though.. but now i still have alot more variety names to add to it from all these little trades i have laying around here. Probably got at least 200 of those to do.. and i still gotta get that last package of ernie's seeds you sent me into it. I started last week putting em in in alphabetical order so i got a-d of that last one you sent.. but i still got the rest to put in there. That was before i finally found out that the spreadsheet would arrange em for me in order.
I'll get the hang of it eventually.. I'll try what you just told me.

Dave: If all you are using the Google spreadsheet for is to do sorts, here's a freebie text editor, with the function built right in. Go to www.notetab.com/ and download Note Tab Lite. I have used this for a number of years now (through about 4 versions). It won't take you long to figure out how to do what, and it has a lot of good features. If you want a free form of excel, download Open Office. It's an open source replacement for Billy Gates office packs. I'm sure there are others out there that have used it. It will handle the formats of most of the office suites around, and save in their document forms as well. It will also make PDF files for you. Worth a check if you need more than a simple text editor. Cheers Dan

Thanks Dan...
I just opened that link.. now i gotta go check it out. Sorting isn't the only reason i want to use the google docs spreadsheet.. with all my luck with computers i figure that'll be safer than having records on my hard drive. But i can still use that link you left here. If i can sort em before i upload the file, it'll cut out a couple of steps from the way i was doing it. Thanks!
Now i got some downloading to do... talk with ya later.
