Looking for suggestions on questions to ask Mr. Kapuler who I plan to interview for the fist Homegrown Goodness interview edition.
Thanks for any help whatsoever.

What was your gateway vegetable?

Whooo, I'm awed that you're interviewing Alan Kapuler, he's like a rock star to me! The hippy question: From the descriptions in Carol Deppe's book it appears some of your breeding projects started with a spiritual motivation as much as a scientific one (e.g. Rainbow Inca sweetcorn). To what extent has your breeding work been driven by your background as a molecular biologist and how much by a sense of connection with the earth and seeds? The practical question: Where did the genetics of "hypertendril" peas come from, and what made you pursue that particular line?

«another question, on the pratical side.
Do you need growers from other areas to conduct trials and/or do some work for you ?
Other:
What are the crops you are concentrating on these days...?

I've been trying to think about how to word a few questions, but not making much progress. The gist of what I'm curious about is does he have thoughts or predictions about the 21st century, about a potential renaissance of backyard plant breeders?

Gregor Mendel was the discoverer of ''genetics'', the first real breeder. Using green and yellow peas, he studied the transmission of characteristic traits and could then estimate probabilies in genes transmission. It is because of him that we can predict the generational combinations and recombination of genes. But he could never explain eating grit....

Good questions guys, keep them coming. I think you've got a good basis for a question there Johno, I'll see if I can't hammer that out as well.
By the way, for anyone wanting to help conduct interviews, we need volunteers.

I can't wait! When will you interview him and where can I view it after?
I met him at the Oregon Country Fair. He is a very interesting and connected person.

Howdy Darol J, welcome to Homegrown Goodness! I'm going to try to get this interview done sometime in the next few weeks, getting in touch with Dr. Kapuler can sometimes be hit and miss, but we will get the interview done sooner or later. I got a letter/seedlist in the mail today from Peace Seedlings and get the impression that Dylana is taking over the reighns of the business, glad it is staying in the family! Anyhow, once we nail the interview down I'll post it here on the site and also to my blog at: homegrowngoodness.blogspot.com

Hi Daryl J, welcome to HG!
I think Dylana is on the cover of the '09 Seeds of Change catalog. Good catalog, by the way...

I was just snooping around the site just a second ago, some good stuff in there!
I agree Johno, seeds of change is a great catalog, I don't like the glossy but the grower profiles and selections make up for it, other than the price of some of the stuff, but a lot of it is really worth it in the long run! Lots of Kapuler stuff there too!

Hmm... without comparing directly, I see at least one difference from the online 2009 listing and the printed one I ordered from last month. I got Steely Green kale a few weeks ago, but I don't see it online? Maybe that's the only difference. I shouldn't have looked again, though - now I see a few more things I just can't live without, don't know why I didn't order them the first time...

Hey folks,
I got to correspond with Mr. Kapuler this morning about an interview and invited him here to the message board which he seemed very impressed with. Anyhow, the interview is now secure so let's come up with some great questions for Shroom.
I suggest doing a google search for interviews he has done in the past and then reading those so that we can come up with a new and unique set of questions. Mr. Kapuler is a wealth of information and a great guy to boot, let's do a great interview!
Submit questions on this thread, let's try to get this lined out by next Saturday which will be January 09, 2009.
Thanks guys!
