It feels like the far side... I started hearing turkeys in the woods a couple weeks ago (my place is surrounded by woods...) They were hanging around the creek to the south at first, but gradually they are moving in closer and working their way around both sides of the house to the north. This morning I heard them from all directions. I think they are planning an ambush!

I think I've mentioned on idig that my Dad's starting a winery... well, turkeys like grapes! Mom and Dad's neighbor feeds the turkeys, and all sorts of other birds, too. I guess the neighbor lady came and complained not too long ago, because my Dad was shooting the turkeys while they were at her feeders in her back yard! He takes aim from the door that accesses his basement, under his deck, like some sort of turkey sniper, and picks 'em off while they're breakfasting. My sister in law who lives next door says it's the funniest thing to see the flock of turkeys show up, and then see just a gun barrel emerge slowly from Mom and Dad's place... Anyway, Johno, there's a chance that if there's an ambush planned for your place, there's a coordinated attack planned in CT for the same time!

Hey Johnno- I've been dealing with the same problem. For years I couldnt figure out what was happening to all my squash blossoms until my dad witnessed the whole flock fly in and feast. They've been gobblin' for 2 weeks now.

And as I mentioned in the past, Turkeys Love the little coneheads of Early Jersey Wakefield cabbage...Don't worry Down..they'll be coming to visit you too, LOL
We have wild's here, but with the exception of one old Tom who thought he was coming to get lucky with my hens until my Toms stepped up, they don't come near the house at all. We see them in the pasture furthest from the house, and in the neighbours fields. I remember an online conversation on a poultry forum where a woman in Ohio said that the wildlife warden came to insist that they keep their domestic turkeys locked up for fear that they would breed with the wild ones.

We have a lot of wild turkeys in our area too. About 20 years ago they released some about a mile from my house in a wilderness area. They are showing up many miles away from that original release point. Thankfully they taste good!
