Hope this helps... Dave

Downinmyback, I've just about finished my trade list. Got most of my leftover seeds and some of my fresh harvested tomato seeds on there. Haven't quite had time to add new cucumber or peppers yet though. If Alan dosen't mind, it'll be easier to just give people a link to my trade list since i still have alot more updating to do on it. If you do mind Alan, just go ahead and delete this message. Here's my trade list: members.gardenweb.com/members/exch/american_gardenerIf it dosen't work oh well. Anyone who would like to trade... could you please PM me here? They don't have a PM system there and i hate going thru the hassle of going to my email and digging thru all the spam. It's just so much easier to have everything all in one place such as PM messages. Thanks everyone! Dave

Hey americangardener, you wouldn't happen to have a good stash of San Marizano you'd be willing to part with a couple hundred of would you?
Just wondering, that is another tomato that I am after. -Alan

Marizano.. or Marzano?
San Marzano, i got about an ounce leftover from last season. From Heirloom Acres, they were germination tested at 90% for 2007 season according to the package. I haven't run any germination tests of my own on any of the stored seeds yet. These were stored in a cool dry basement inside one of those big tupperware type storage containers thru out the summer.
I didn't save any seeds for this one myself this year.. but you're welcome to what i have leftover.
If it isn't what you're working on finding... sorry, i've never heard of San Marizano. Then again there's about 18,000 varieties i haven't tried..YET!
Let me know if you want them.. i'll get them in the mail to you as soon as i can get me some more stamps.

Hey Jeff... got your seeds today.. they look great
I can hardly wait to grow these out. I didn't make your return envelope in the mail yet though.. i am so sorry bout that...I stayed up all nite packing envelopes and getting trades ready to go out for about 6 other people along with yours, and unfortunately i overslept this morning. I will get it out FOR SURE tommorrow. I still haven't sealed up the envelope so if you want to pick anything else that's not heavy off my trade list go ahead.. i'll throw it in to compensate you for the delay. Seems i just wasn't expecting such an overwhelming response right away and i haven't even got anything pre-packaged yet. Had to make em all up as i went. Then on top of that i ran out of stamps just from these 7. Next time i'll be more prepared.
Now.. for being so nice... i'm hijacking your thread for a second. I have a new add i posted on the Garden Web site. Apparently there haven't been any posts in that exchange for months so i had the grand idea of posting the same exact ad here. The reason i'm hijacking ya is so people can check the earlier link to see what i already have.. Next time i'll start my own thread.
Ok.. here it is.. first come first serve.. once they're gone the trade request is over: ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hello all... I'm still a newbie here.. but i would like to make a request.
I would love to find some heirloom seeds, especially Peas or Beans since that is what i want to trade for this deal. Only reason i'm requesting peas or beans is cause of the weight of shipping. I figure it should be equal for both parties.
What i would like to trade are from about 100 pea varieties that i trialed this last season. Unfortunately we had a severe drought here and early in the season so none of my varieties performed anywhere near what their potential should be. But it was enough for me to find out which i would like to save for next year and which i would like to trade for something else. Also cause of this terrible weather i didn't get to save as many of any variety as i would have liked. In case you are wondering, all my varieties were isolated by at least 50 ft and i used staggered plantings so that rarely were more than 4 or 5 varieties blooming at the same time. Other than that i did no other measures to ensure against cross pollination. But i feel fairly confident most if not all will be genetically pure.
Rather than list my peas on my trade list, i will give you an idea of which ones i would like to swap here: Amrilissimo Hamisepp (Estonia) Aspen (Us) Bolero (US) Cupido (Netherlands) Delicate Earliest (US) Early Abundant (US) Earligreen (Canada) Fortuna (netherlands) Frisky (US) Ho Laan Tau - Round Yellow (US) Kiflica (Yugoslavia) Kristallglass(netherlands) Red Flower No 1 (Malaysia) Signal (US) Spirit (US) Sundance (US) Sweet Green (US) Swinger (US) Trifect (US) White Flower No.2 (Malaysia) Worlds Record (US)
Ok those are the one's i'd like to get rid of. Nothing wrong with most of em.. it's just not what i was looking for. I would really love to find new snap peas, and especilly hoping to find some more chinese snow peas. For most of these i'd only have a couple hundred seeds so what i'm hoping is that you could send an equal amount of seed as i send you. If you'd like to trade much more of say your favorite variety for a couple or even several different variety's of mine that would be ok too.
I'd be glad to consider any trades for anything that's not already on my trade list. Hopefully the postage costs would equal out between the two of us. Again especially looking for Pea, bean, and possibly corn swaps for my peas.
Thanks for reading... Dave ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ok.. thanks for letting me hijack your thread..(like i gave you a choice). If alan has any problem with me directing anyone to the earlier link he can still delete it.
For anyone wishing to contact me.. please do it here. They don't have a PM system there and i can't stand opening my email inbox.. besides always being full of spam, whenever i open it up it slows my browser down to a crawl.. i am still using an antique computer with dial up and windows98. So please PM me here instead of using email.
Thanks

Yep, San Marzano is what I am after, I often type far to fast for my brain and fingers to have direct contact and end up misspelling a lot of words or sometimes adding an extra letter or two (I tell my fiance Kim that I just spell everything in old English LOL).
Anyhow, I would love to have those seeds if you don't mind to part with them, I could definetly use them as I have 3 restraunts that are wanting me to grow them.
I got your package put together today and it will go out in tomarrows mail, i'm sending a pretty good selection of what I have listed here on this site and hope you enjoy!
Thanks for the cherry tomato seeds and san marzano, can't wait to grow them! -Alan

Nothing wrong with a few typos.. i blame mine on fat fingers... just too fat for only one key. I will send you the cherry tomato seeds and the san Marzano and whatever else you want when i get more stamps.. that might not be until the 3rd of next month.
I read a post earlier about some purple carrots, then i remembered i had harvested a shopping bag of egyptian carrot seeds earlier this month... they're a beautifull deep purple. I thought to myself alan might like these... but unfortunately when i harvested them i had forgotten to bring them back to the house and they'd been sitting out in the garden for over a month. When i did go get em and checked em out they were all musty smelling so they're probably all ruined. Sorry bout that, but it's the thought that counts right.. Maybe next year i'll just throw them out in the neighbors field. I still do have some purple haze carrot seeds left over though.. not that you'd want em.. but i could throw those in the envelope i've started for ya if you do. I think i've got a 4 - 5 cherrys for ya in there so far.
Don't know if you'd want it.. but i've got a voulenteer cherry tomato that grows every year and i never planted any till these last couple years. This thing has been growing by itself since my dad died and that's almost ten years ago. It wouldn't be any problem at all to pick and process a few for ya.. there's probably close to a hundred of em just laying around on the ground. Couldn't promise they weren't crossed with any of my regular tomatoes, but if you want some let me know.
Well, i'll talk at ya tomarrow Dave

Yeah, I'd love to have some of the purple haze carrot seeds and that wild cherry tomato! Hey, if you need some stamps I'll go ahead and send you a package with stamps in it so you don't have to pay postage, does that sound ok, it wouldn't be any big deal.
Your friend, Alan

Only if you don't want to wait till the third Alan.. i'm more than willing to pay the postage, i'm just financially strapped right now.
Ok.. i will throw those into your envelope too... i did go check those egyptian carrot seeds. Since i brought them back to the house i've left the shopping bag open so they'd air out.. Seems they might not be as bad as i thought. The musty smell has gone.. they're now more carroty smelling. I threw out any umbrells that were showing mold. And there's still quite a few left that are looking ok. Couple problems though.. 1st i don't know if you'd even care for these cause this season.. i'd say 75% or more just bolted straight to seed production as soon as they germinated. The rest were great carrots though. I thought maybe you could use them for some breeding projects or something. These aren't something i would trade to anyone anyways. So if you wanted any? 2nd problem.. how the heck does one go about cleaning carrot seeds.... i'm having a hard time trying to get all the chaff outta there... there's gotta be an easier way.
Ok.. now i was hoping you'd want some of that wild one's seeds.. got em picked already. Started fermenting already to. My fermentation only takes about 2-3 days, cause i already have my mold pre made. They should be ready by friday.. could be dry enough to package by Mon. I'll try an see what else i can find for cherry types in my inventory for ya too. I only grow the things for my customers.. frankly i love growing the largest tomatoes much more. At least it's nice to find someone who enjoys growing em.
Gotta go now.. Talk at ya later Dave

It's not a problem Alan...
I'd gladly send you whatever i can, and spring for the postage. Just cause you're such a gracious host. I'm glad Jeff gave me a link to here otherwise i might never of found this site. I'm having a great time here.
Keep up the good work. Dave

Alan...
received a package from ya just now.. Thank you so much. I can see i'll have plenty of seeds to trial next season. I'll be planting them all in my trial gardens. There's so many seeds there i may even plant some in my production area. Of course i'm gonna save some for the 2009 season too, just in case! I gotta say that I don't usually do alot of corn, the raccoons here always beat me to it, so i've sorta given up on that. I did grow some of the truckers favorite and some hopi indian corn this season though and haven't had too many problems.. Probably cause my neighbor trapped 9 coons and i trapped two with a trap i borrowed for a week. Next season i can see i'll probably have to buy my own traps. I will definately try to grow the corn. Thanks for the burley tobacco too! I was already planning on trying some tobacco plants next season and have already picked up 10 varieties. These will be a nice addition to that trial patch. Don't know the first thing about growing tobacco though.. so you may as well expect alot of questions from me when the time comes.
Anyways, just wanted to thank you.. Talk to you later, Dave
PS.. Downin.. if you're interested in cukes? I got alot of leftover seeds from the 100 or so varieties i trialed this season. Only a few of each though. Didn't save much seed this season myself. I'll try to get back here and post a list just for you.

Dave,
Glad you like the package! About the astronomy domine corn you should definetly check out the post with me and Johno talking about it and it's potential in the cornography thread which i beleive is in the hybridizing and segragation forum on here.
I've got close to 40 tobaccos to grow out next year and would love to give you any info you need, the particular stain I sent you is great as an ornamental or for other practical uses (if cured the right way). Let me know any info you need on it.
Thanks so much! -Alan

Hello again everyone... Well it appears Downinmyback is all set for cucumbers for next season, so I will post what i have for everyone else to pick from.
What i have the most of (pounds) are mixes, i have mixes of pickling types, slicing types, and long slicing types or european types all together. Now sorry about the mixes, but quite frankly i just got tired of fermenting and cleaning single cucumbers and decided to do em all in larger batches where i threw all the similar types together. All of these were hand pollinated, with the female blossoms tied off.. but i did not go to the extra step of tying off the male blossoms prior to opening that real breeders might do. There could be some crossing with these so i'm not promising they'd all grow true. I am hoping that i can interest some of you in the mixes, since i have few of any of the individual varieties saved seperately. Some i have none of except in the mixes. Ok.. here's what i may have available from the trialed varieties: Jin Chun No.4 Chi Xin Huan Gua San Gua Jan-can-huan-gua Green Spot Dolga slatka Kaga Aonaga Fushinari Karih Fushinari Pe-din-cy-qua Dolga London Long Green Ao Fushinari (a) Ao Fushinari (b) Aonaga Jihai Hyuga 2 Hyuga 2 Improved Izumiharu (a) Jin Koshiro Mitani Peking Risshu (b) Too San jaku Yamato San jalu Din-zo-si Kujilukskij Er-ch'ing Smr 12, (Wisconsin SMR 12) Kuai Huang Kua Kurume Natuhusinari Esviar Bao dan khuan Da ba cha Khai Khan'gua Vert long da China Vert Long Allemand Landgurken Delikarass Landgurken Vorgagirgstrauben Chinese Long or Mandarin Tsuda-Sanjaku Baarlose Nietplekkers; Ras Tracken VII Guntruud Eminent Broei Anulka Mieszaniec Armour Nanchi Black Spine Hermaphrodite 61 Crna dolga 52 Kusa Kora Navestock Bela Dolga 222 Golema
Well that's enough for now.. i got about 60-70 more varieties that i didn't list, but could be in the mixes. As you can see i am very interested in Asian varieties. Now that i've gone thru most of my seeds i might as well tell ya i won't have most of them available seperately since i am running low on seeds i saved individually. If anyone wants a mix though i got pounds of those like i said earlier. You can ask for pickling, slicing, long slicing, or just all of em together.
