Cherokee Brick Red and Cherokee Purple are not the same. I grow both and have for years. Cherokee Brick Red is a color mutation from the Cheokee Purple, like Cherokee Chocolate also is (and Cherokee Green also is). Cherokee Brick Red does not have the dark exterior color that the Purple does though it still retains the dusky green shoulder. The color of the Brick Red is more of a dark burnt orange color I guess (very brick like in color), not the dusky/smokey purple that C. Purple is. I had asked Craig about this several years ago and got a completely different answer. Let me know how your plants/fruit turn out. Mine are setting well at this point but it will be a while yet before I pick anything from them.
I should be picking Yellow Pears and Old Ivory Eggs in the next 10 days, plants are loaded. Black Mountain Pink are setting well and plants look great...can't wait for these to finish up as these are our favorite. I also have an heirloom potato leaf from Grant County Ky. in the garden that I received high recommendations for. It is a good grower and setting now too. Wisconsin 55 plants are loaded with 2-3" green fruit and growing fast. This is a good all purpose tomato, has very good flavor and high production, nice clean shape and color (for market).
Peppers are setting too. I got mine started late but looks like they are making up nicely. I grow and heirloom known as Elongated Yellow and the o.p. Purple Bell. Both look nice and have good flavor.
I dug up the garlic patch two days ago. Plants started to yellow and lean over (necks weakening). About 40% are very large nice bulbs with the balance being average to small. The dry spring definitely effected this but overall a good crop.
Beans are all doing well, flowering and setting tons of pods. I have picked Chippewa corn already. Outer husks were brown though there were green-yellow inner leaves yet. I'm letting these dry down in the greenhouse out of the weather. I got in a late planting of Morgan County White Dent Corn...maybe a little too late but I think it'll be o.k. Plants are coming up nicely and are 4" at this point.
