I saw some thing similar at the tomato fest in Nashville,it was called a blue tomato but it wasn't any where as dark blue and stunning looking as the photo's on here, those are so pretty is it an acid tomato? unfortunately the person showing the blues were not selling the seeds and I never got a chance to chat to them as their booth was flooded with people. The tomato fest is held yearly, think I will be going back this year and see if that seller is there.

I would like to comment the taste. My plants were of seeds from michaeljohnson (Thanks!). I grew only 2 plants. Some tomatoes tasted as mediocre as initially expected. I will rate them 2 or 3 out of 10. But others from same plants were surprisingly good (6-7 / 10). Usually the better ones were very ripe, but not all very ripe were very good. Obviously the better taste was influenced not only of stage of ripeness. Some pics:

It's 'Kubinskyi Pertzevidnyi Chernyi' (word for word: 'Cuban Pepper-like Black', but 'Cuban Black Pepper' sounds better). Tastes as most "black" varieties.

That must be the first 'pepper' type dark tomato I've ever seen. Could you please you give me some more info about it as I've never heard of it before. Is there any way I could ask for some seeds? I would really like to try this black wonder... I can trade more then 200 tomato varieties Oh, Hristo, I see we live 'quite' close to each other, we call Bolgaria Bugarska

I have distributed all the Blue tomatoes that michaeljonhson so kindly shared with me last year, especially to send them to Europe for our tour. I had to ship them twice, as last year was a badlucky mail year for me and many others...
If somebody would be kind enough to ship me some, I would really appreciate it.
Thanks
Michel

I do not know if this is the only one 'black pepper' type variety. Received the seeds from Ukraine. It's known in Russia too. There is only few web pages mentioning it, earliest is of 2006. I do not know why they call it Cuban!? That is all I know. Check your pm box. If somebody would be kind enough to ship me some, I would really appreciate it. Hm, Michel, ...... I think I know someone who will send you

I must say-That Hiristo sent me some seeds in exchange last season, and without doubt they were some of the best quality high germination seeds I have ever had from a private individual before, I got almost 100 percent germination out of them (several varieties) and very healthy plants to follow,
Regarding taste- of the O.S.U Blue, I didn't eat a lot of them personally, but most had sort of liqorice type overtones in with the flavour, but the bulk of the flavour was moderate in various stages of ripenes, I only grow them normally for their decorative and novelty value rather than to eat, as I continue to be fascinated by their colour etc,-this year I am trying a few crosses with them and Brandywine, Goose creek etc, hopefully I might end up eventually with Blue Brandy, and Blue Gooseygander ;D

Alan sent me some seeds for the OSU blue tomato... We have germination... The tiny little guys, have roots out, not really standing up yet... But, I see distinct purple coloring already! How fascinating! Are the tiny stems purple also? Thanks, again, Alan

Ozarklady, I haven't grown them before myself, but if I remember right, they looked pretty nice as an ornamental too, for the purplish foliage.

Some of them will have partially purple foliage and in some cases a full purple stem as well, these ones are the best to segregate out from the others to grow on as they usually make the best color tomatoes for your future saved seed stock, the remaining seedlings will also produce good blue tomatoes too, but you must wait for the bit at the back of each tomato to turn from green to red before harvesting the fruit -this is important, otherwise any harvesting done before this stage will be unripe despite how much blue color is on them. I saw last year(probably on here) a wonderful example of the O.S.U Blue photo where all the main stem and the vast majority of the leaves were dark blue too, this is the best example of it i have yet seen, I think the photo was from either Johno or Stratcat but I cant quite remember as it was several months ago. whoever it was-I do hope that he saved some seeds from that plant- is so please send me a few seeds of it-in exchange for a very few I have left of My Giant O.S.U Blue that I got last year which came in at around ten to twelve ounces, I only have about 15 seeds of it left for me to sow this season, but I would be willing to share them inexchange for some seeds from that marvelous all blue plant.
