Oh, boy Wabbits! Great post sandbar. Good luck Jim. Do you use traps? How do you usually cook them?

I went with a 20gauge shotgun. I shot at one and missed. A friend got one though. I plan on cooking it in the crockpot with carrots, taters, onions, and half a can of coke. Suposedly tastes like sweet and sour chicken when done...never ate rabbit or went hunting before. It was a good time.

We raised rabbits for quite awhile. And sometimes kids go... I am not eating rabbit. So, you simply cook them when kids aren't around. You can use them just like chicken in any recipe for chicken. If you remove the meat from the bones... no one will ever know that it is not chicken.... Unless you leave some lead in it from your bullets! ha ha Just pretend it is chicken, and use your favorite recipe: rabbit and dumplings, rabbit and dressing, monterey rabbit, rabbit burritos, rabbit and spaghetti, etc.

I went with andy from work. Sorry. I'll ask if you can go next time...We need guns.... I shot at one and only got a little fur. My shoulder is quite sore. Never shooting a real gun before had me unprepared for shotgun recoil...lol.

My husband rabbit hunts, but I don't like to eat them. Once you bite into a bb, you get a little leery. I prefer to eat our homegrown rabbits, although I am just not that crazy about rabbit meat. As I type this, there is a rabbit living in the office with me right now eating her supper. Last week we bought 3 more mini lops, one was used to living in heated quarters and it has been bitter cold here. So she is living inside till it warms up a bit. My husband is rabbit crazy. We have driven 6 hours to buy a rabbit. Seriously.

I went out in the snow rabbit/squirrel/whatever moves hunting today, didn't see anything but a lot of rabbit tracks followed by a lot of fox and coyotee tracks!
I love rabbit, both wild and domestic, and they both taste slightly different, as many of you here know I'm starting a breeding program and a meat rasing rabit program here on the farm. I can thank Karen and here husband for that partially, she told me two years ago I'd have them eventually and I said no, she was right! LOL
Anyhow, I'm going back again tomorrow. How did the rabbit cooking go my friend?

So, ya' just sits in your office with rabbit food scattered on the carpet and Bugsy lumbers in and ... BLAM ... BLAM-BLAM-BLAM-BLAMMA-BLAM!! (OK, so you aren't a very good shot...) ;D I think it would be MUCH more sporting to hunt them OUTSIDE!!

BTW, our church had a "Wild Game Supper" a few years as an evangelistic outreach into the community. Had quite a few Amish come to the dinner. We had judging for best meat dish (venison, goose, rabbit, turkey, elk, Kentucky Fried Chicken, etc.). Anyhow, one of them brought his wife's Rabbit in Gravy ... oooooohhh, mama ... that was good. Anyhow, it got to the point that he knew I was looking for him. The last year we had it, we were cleaning up and he saw me standing next to the table and asked me if I wanted to finish the pan off. Well, of course! I have never tasted anything like it ... my mouth is watering now!

I ended up freezing the rabbit. I want to get a few more before I cook it up. I need more than one to feed the family.. Hoping to talk my friend into taking me out again soon.
