they produce around 45 watts, 3.75 amps max sun. they power something with small power useage for a limited amount of time. being they only produce power when the sun is shinning at nite there's no power from them at all .. depending on the size of your battery bank would determan mostly what you could run. excellent for back up lighting if you use the compact florsent bulbs.

Yeah, I noticed the absentee gardeners that must be gardening too. We're not quite there yet.

Hmmm, I was hoping to hear that I could "dedicate" a set to a single appliance, like the freezer. The freezer, being left closed nearly all the time, wouldn't need to have the cold on constantly. But would the off/on damage the machinery.

i run a freezer off my system small chest type but i run 16 of thoes panels, but after the initial start up cool off, i think 2 sets of thoes panels and like 4 batteries would run one, being its only gonna kick on maybe twice a day for 5 to 10 mins . another thing if the freezer is full its more econical, it wont kick on as often, but one say 1/4 to 1/2 full will kick on more. so there's still some variables in there.

That's sort of what I was hoping to hear. I've read that in major blackouts (something that could occur here from a hurricane) one of the major losses is food stored in freezers and fridges. If we were faced with an emergency, those are the two primary systems I would want to see running off grid. Third in line would be the washing machine.

you would be much better off running a washing machine off a generator than solar, the inverter would have to be at least 5000 watts and thats a 7 to 800+ dollars inverter alone .

most washing machines plug into a standard outlet and can't take more than 1875 watts my washer is only 500W so an inverter costs $50 to run it if you have a washer that takes anything close to 5000w then you might just need to get a standard washer and run it off of the solar.

Hoo wee! That is SO over my head! ::laughing:: I am truly grateful that you are so generously willing to share your knowledge with me.
The washing machine is not going to be in the doable picture for at least 5 to 6 years. I am hoping to get the pump house and water softener off line this year. If we are able to accomplish that, then it'll be another 2 years before we can get the freezer off line. This of course presumes no major financial catastrophes.

::laughing:: I love it Bunkie... Freedom, I think if you had great Grannies old washtub... you could make a family size version. You could also move the belt from tub to wringer and give it greater functionality since there wasn't a spin cycle in the early models... Least ways, not to my recollection.
