I don't hand pollinate melons nor squash, but I do have bees and watch when the bees are working the flowers. It seems the male flowers are open not too long after sun up and close by about 10:00 AM. The bees certainly lose interest then. This seems to be the case for all the Cucurbita.

I always thought that squash flowers once open, remain so until they start to wither and die. I must watch more carefully this season.
