The season is progressing very nicely at this point. We are throwing out crushed egg shells to convince slugs and snails that it isn't a good idea to hang out in these parts. The Lazy Housewife beans are continuing beautifully and are starting to send their primary tendrils upward searching for the trellis. However, it is the VERY slow germinating Piekny Jo runner bean that has reached the trellis ahead of all the rest! Only 2 seed germinated and the second one got munched nearly to death. I still have hopes for it, but it was heavily damaged. The spinach is holding me over for peas, peas will hold me over for beans... =o)

I just found a little more info on the "Piekny Jas" beans, which have started to make beans by the way... They are a Polish bean, used dry. Here is a recipe for soup I found: Recipe for bean soup - specialty housewives Dunajec Valley. Składniki: Ingredients: 1 kg fasoli "Piękny Jaś", 1 kg of beans "giant beans" 1/2 kg kości wieprzowej z karczku lub schabu, 1 / 2 pounds of neck bones or pork loin, 1/2 kg kości wieprzowych wędzonych, 1 / 2 pounds smoked pork bones, 20 dkg boczku wędzonego, 20 ounces smoked bacon, 30 dkg mięsa mielonego, 30 grams of minced meat, 1 jajko, 1 egg, jarzynka, pieprz, czosnek, vegetables, pepper, garlic, bułka tarta, crumbs, jarzyny: marchew, pietruszka, seler, por, ziemniaki, cebula, natka pietruszki. vegetables: carrots, parsley, celery, leek, potato, onion, parsley. Wykonanie: Przygotowując zupę fasolową należy kości obrać z mięsa i gotować wywar. Execution: In preparing bean soup bones should peel and cook the meat stock. Fasolę ugotować do miękkości. Boil beans until tender. Osobno ugotować jarzyny i ziemniaki. Separately boil the vegetables and potatoes. Z mięsa zrobić małe kulki i podsmażyć je z dwóch stron. From meat to make small balls and fry them on both sides. Połączyć wszystkie ugotowane składniki i trochę razem podgotować. Combine all the cooked ingredients and boil a little together. Boczek usmażyć i zrobić zasmażkę, zagęścić zupę i doprawić do smaku. Fry the bacon and make a roux, thicken the soup and season to taste. WHOA!! I wasn't expecting to get the Polish version WITH the English...
